R U OK? Day 2025

R U OK? Day is about inspiring and empowering everyone to meaningfully connect with the people around them and start a conversation with those who may be struggling with life.

You don’t need to be an expert to reach out - just a good friend and a great listener.

Use these four steps to have a conversation that could change a life:

1. Ask R U OK?
2. Listen
3. Encourage action
4. Check in
Let’s make space for real conversations. Let’s support one another.

This June, we celebrate 🄻🄾🅅🄴, 𝕚𝕕𝕖𝕟𝕥𝕚𝕥𝕪, and the 𝓹𝓸𝔀𝓮𝓻 𝓸𝓯 𝓬𝓸𝓶𝓶𝓾𝓷𝓲𝓽𝔂. Pride is more than a party - it’s a protest, a history, and a promise to keep showing up for LGBTQIA+ folks all year round.

Whether you’re marching, healing, dancing, or discovering yourself - you belong.
Let’s uplift q***r voices, support each other, and keep creating safe, inclusive spaces for everyone. 🏳️‍🌈

🖤💛❤️ National Reconciliation Week 2025: Bridging Now to Next

From the 27th of May to the 3rd of June, we reflect on our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

This year's theme, "Bridging Now to Next", urges us to look ahead and continue the push forward towards a more united and respectful nation, guided by lessons from the past.

Let's commit to learning, listening, and taking meaningful action - today and every day.

And finally, we'd like to acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we work, the Turrbal and Jagera peoples. We pay our respects to their Elders past and present, and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We recognise their ongoing connection to land, waters, and culture, and honour their enduring strength and resilience.

🚨 NDIS Funding Periods Are Here 🚨

From now on, all new and reassessed NDIS plans will release funding in set blocks (e.g. every 3 months) — not all at once like before.

This changes how we plan, deliver, and invoice support services — but it doesn’t change our commitment to quality, person-centred care. 💙

Here’s how we’re staying on track 👇

✅ Plan with purpose
We’ll align assessments, reviews, and training with each funding period to make sure critical supports are delivered on time.

✅ Keep communication open
We’re here to explain what funding periods mean and support participants, families, and coordinators every step of the way.

✅ Stay on top of documentation
Up-to-date reporting helps secure future funding and avoid delays during plan reviews.

✅ Quality over quantity
We stay focused on outcomes that truly matter — because better lives are the goal. 🌱

🧭 This is a change in structure, not in values. We remain dedicated advocates, educators, and guides — walking alongside participants with care and purpose.

🖤💛❤️ 𝐓𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐢𝐬 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐲 𝐃𝐚𝐲.

We pause to remember the Stolen Generations - Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children who were forcibly removed from their families, culture, and communities.

This day is a time for truth-telling, reflection, and honouring the strength and survival of First Nations peoples.
It’s also a reminder that reconciliation is not just a word - it’s an action.

Together, we can listen, learn, and walk the path of healing with respect and care.

𝐇𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐲 𝐏𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐞𝐱𝐮𝐚𝐥 & 𝐀𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐃𝐚𝐲! 🩷💛💙

Today we’re celebrating the people whose love and attraction don’t follow the traditional script, and that’s something beautiful.

- 𝐏𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐞𝐱𝐮𝐚𝐥 folks can be attracted to people of any gender. It’s about the person, not the gender.

- 𝐏𝐚𝐧𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐜 folks can fall in love with anyone, regardless of gender, but may or may not want a sexual relationship.

Everyone experiences connection differently. That’s okay. That’s human.

Let’s keep learning, listening, and creating safe spaces for all kinds of love.

🚗NATIONAL ROAD SAFETY AWARENESS WEEK🚗

At Sisters in the City, our team travels countless kilometers each day to support our valued NDIS and DVA clients across the community. This National Road Safety Awareness Week (11th-18th May), we're highlighting the importance of staying alert on the roads.

"ALERT TODAY, ALIVE TOMORROW" isn't just a slogan—it's our commitment to ensuring every team member returns home safely each day.

Our road safety pledge:
• Regular vehicle maintenance checks
• Zero tolerance for distracted driving
• Proper rest between shifts
• Weather-appropriate driving adjustments

To our amazing staff: your safety is our priority. To our clients: thank you for understanding when we take extra precautions during adverse conditions.

Let's make every journey a safe one! 💙

🌈 May 17 is IDAHOBIT 🌈
Today, we unite to stand against homophobia, biphobia, interphobia, and transphobia. IDAHOBIT commemorates the day in 1990 when the World Health Organization declassified homosexuality as a mental disorder, a pivotal moment in LGBTQIA+ history.
This year's theme, “The power of communities,” celebrates the strength, diversity, and unity within LGBTQIA+ communities and their allies. Let's harness the power of our communities to foster inclusivity and stand against discrimination. Together, we can make a difference. 💪
