Our manifestos 🤍

Manifestos are written statements that declare one's intentions, motivations, visions, and beliefs. At New Elegance, our manifesto statements were one of the first things we created. There is something powerful about declaring your internal core beliefs, values, and visions in a written statement.

A manifesto, importantly, is personal to you. Have you sat down and taken the time to write your own personal manifesto? How about a marriage or love manifesto with your partner?

Here is how you can use your manifesto:
🧭 As a directive compass, pointing you towards taking values aligned action
🤸‍♀️Frames your identity, declaring that this is what matters to you, and this is how I am going to act
👉As a behaviour modification system, so that you cast a vote towards who you want to become
🏛 As a pillar of inspiration, motivation, and strength
⚓As an anchor that reminds you of your priorities and focuses your mind

Human touch. When faced with lots of external stimulus and emotions, it is easy to get overwhelmed and caught up in it all. Sometimes when this happens, our bodies can actually freeze up or dissociate from the experience as our flight/fight/freeze system gets activated. A lot of brides experience this as they walk down the isle and say their vows. Oftentimes, brides struggle to recall what actually happened during their wedding ceremony for this very reason.

A useful grounding technique when in a swirl of emotion with lots going on, is to notice how things feel, this could be through touching the fabric of your dress, flowers and veil and noticing how they feel in that moment, or holding your partners hands when you get to the end of the isle and noticing the warmth of their touch. These little presencing moments, where you tune into one of your senses, are super powerful grounding techniques which will help you get the most from those moments and truly live in them.

Self-sabotage is anything we do that gets in the way of what we need or want to be doing. It’s anything we do that moves us away from being aligned with our values, even though its purpose is to assist us in avoiding discomfort in the short term.

This cycle of self-sabotage can also show up in a BIG way during the bride to be phase.

So what can we do to help us take more intentional, aligned action during these moments of self sabotage?

Katie reflects on her bride-to-be experience now that it is over and motivation for writing To The Future Mrs 🤍

"Now that the 'bride to be' phase of my life is over, I look back and can say that I worked hard to bring intention into that phase of my life.

Even though it was filled with a lot of stress and overwhelm, I created space for myself to really be in the moment and savour the experience.

It was also a time of self re-creation and re-birth, where I shedded old habits that weren't serving me, and cultivated new, sustainable habits to take into my 'wifey' phase.

The Future Mrs E-Book is a gift to all the brides-to-be. Alongside New-Elegance co-founder Emma (a current bride to be), we wrote this e-book as a sign and symbol of creation and intention for you, to give you the permission to stop, pause, reflect, and enjoy. As psychologists, we feel that there is a lot of pressure brides-to-be go through, and we hope to be part of the movement that changes this experience."
