It's always so great catching up with other local providers, working out how best can best work together to improve our practices, our clients' experiences....and of course their outcomes.

Director and principal OT Helen is seen here meeting with Lasni, owner of Seeds of Knowledge and Sam, director of Enhanced Movement Exercise Physiology and Physio.

Talking all things mobile therapy, commitment to Child Safety and wellbeing, NDIS updates, Exercise Physiology and the importance of meeting children (and any client) where they are at.

As Lasni says..... alot is about the children's mindset, them having the belief in themselves....then they will do the rest 🙌🌈.

Couldn't agree more in the importance of empowerment 🌟⭐️.

There is a distinct possibility several coffees also took part in the above conversation 🤔🤪☕️

A very special day for a very special person!!

Today we celebrate the birthday of our incredible director, Helen Walker. 🎂

Helen is not only a highly skilled and dedicated Occupational Therapist, but also someone who continually inspires those around her. She gives so much of herself to her clients, their families, and to the profession, always striving to make a difference and find solutions where others may see barriers.

Within our team, Helen is endlessly generous with her time, guidance, and encouragement. She goes out of her way to create opportunities for growth, and to make the people she works with feel valued and supported. Beyond her professional brilliance, Helen is so kind, full of laughter, and has a real love for nature and the simple joys of life.

We feel so fortunate to walk alongside her every day and we know many of you do too. Please join us in wishing Helen the happiest of birthdays today!

A friendly reminder that we will be closed tomorrow - Wednesday 13th August - for the Brisbane Ekka show day public holiday.

We may or may not be found somewhere eating strawberry sundaes 🤣🍓🍦

It is birthday season ahead at HWOT! 🎈🎈

Sooo lovely to catch up for drinkies, nibbles and giggles with the team this weekend....and to have some early celebrations for OTs Tash and Helen and our Social Worker Bec 🥳🎂.

Of course...it is Brisbane winter so we ended up inside with blankets! Essential survival for cold only truly felt and understood by Queenslanders 🤣.

A beautiful weekend of connection 🩷🌈.

Did you know that our experienced team deliver organisational training?

OT Helen and Social Worker Bec are seen here providing support to the Kindy educators .

It is so great to work alongside this team to support inclusion, social and emotional development, sensory regulation and readiness for school 🤗🌈.

Meeting educators where they are at and with the individualised support needs for themselves, their class and childcare centre/Kindy.

It is always a privilege to be welcomed into a centre and to journey alongside educators. And this is certainly a team and centre with inclusion at their very 🩷💚🩵.

If you would like more information on how we can support you with individualised consultation and training- targeted at your centre and the specific needs of your educators - please don't hesitate to reach out for an initial conversation.

This is therapy at it's absolute best - in a home environment, a 'natural' setting - where our clients feel safe, regulated and calm to engage.

ALL of the toys and characters here, watching OT Helen and Miss N working on sensory food play and oral motor skills - did you know that blowing balloons, bubbles, paint (through straws), windmill toys, whistles, water toys, etc can be an AMAZING regulatory activity to help calm and organise the nervous system. A great addition to a bedroom routine.

And who doesn't love seeing a pink inflatable unicorn whizz around a room :-).

Hot from a meeting with local Griffith Federal MP Hon Renee Coffey.

Thank you Renee and team for actively listening and caring regarding concerns for our clients who are participants on the NDIS scheme, provider and funding period changes that are so very impactful.

We appreciate your time meeting with Helen and other local Allied Health Providers across this week to understand our concerns. And those of our clients.

Wishing you all the best for your first parliament in July 🙌🌈

This year’s NAIDOC Week theme reminds us that the future is shaped by the legacy we leave behind.

🖤 The strength of Elders.
💙 The vision of community.
💚 The legacy carried forward by the next generation.

At Helen Walker Occupational Therapy, we’re committed to walking alongside First Nations families - supporting understanding, participation, access and equity in every environment.

We invite you to reflect this week:
✨ Whose legacy are you building?
✨ How are you lifting up the next generation?

Let’s keep learning, listening and standing together.

The HWOT team had such an amazing time at the SOURCE Disability Expo on Friday....it never ever ever disappoints.

A day of connecting with organisations we journey with alongside our clients, networking and building new relationships to better support our clients, gaining knowledge and experience on all of the amazing new assistive technology and resources out there...and (possibly) returning home with an additional few sensory items 🤣🩷.

So great to see some of our clients and families, to chat with The Benevolent Society and NDIS about issues impacting our clients and how best to support them.

And of course...when a client from 13 years ago pops back into your life, tears and hugs involved too 🤗. How amazing and what an honour as a clincian to see how someone has grown and thrives 🌈.

Heart is full and the heart of the team is full.

Never ever enough time. Until the next one SOURCE....

🖤💛❤️ This week we join in celebrating NAIDOC Week 2025 and this year’s theme:

“The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy.”

At Helen Walker Occupational Therapy, we honour the resilience and wisdom of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples past, present and emerging. For they hold the memories of the cultures and the stories that continue to be shared.

Their stories, traditions and advocacy shape a future rich with strength and possibility🌈.

We would like to especially acknowledge the Turrbal and Jagera, Quandamooka, Yugambeh and Gubbi Gubbi People as the Traditional Custodians of the lands on which we live, experience, work and connect.

Particularly deep in our hearts as Occupational Therapists and Social workers is their connections to land, nature, waters - the very elements of how we all do, be, become and belong.

We encourage everyone to take time this week to listen, learn, and amplify First Nations voices.

Together, let’s create space for reflection, truth-telling and growth.
