How to Be Kinder to Yourself: A Short Guide.

It can be so difficult to be kind to ourselves, in general, and especially when we're not performing to the level that we believe we should be. We so quickly become our own worst critic and degrade and talk-down to ourselves.

At times like these, I like to ask myself "How would I speak to a friend who is going through this? Would I say they are stupid, worthless, that they should be doing better?"

Most people would answer "I would never speak to my friends like that!! They need support and compassion at times like these, not a friend being overly critical of them when they're down!!"

If your friend doesn't deserve to be belittled and spoken to in this way, then why do you?

You don't.

When I catch myself being overly critical of myself I like to step out of myself and pretend I am my own friend and speak to myself as such. Have you ever tried it or would you try this technique?

Hey everyone, it's FFIon from Snuggle Bugs here. I have been MIA from social media, it was not a planned hiatus. I find running my social media to be the most difficult aspect of running my business.
That being said, I really look forward to the day when I find it easy and this time when I found it difficult will be something in the past for me. So here I am, still around, still available to take care of all of your cuddling needs!

Hey everyone, I’m Fifi, the owner of Snuggle Bugs Holistic Therapy!

Cuddle therapy might be new to you, but the science behind it isn’t—oxytocin (the ‘feel-good’ hormone) helps reduce stress, ease anxiety, and improve sleep.

At Snuggle Bugs, we create a safe, comforting space where you can truly relax and feel supported.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed or just need some warmth and connection, send us a message below or visit our website to learn more!

Better late than never!

I said I was going to do the chair by the 12th of February and I did not.

However - the deadline and being late did indeed light a fire under me and I found myself late at night on the following Saturday getting it everything I could get done until I have some help cutting the shape of the couch out of plyboard as I don't have the tools; then I need to purchase 2 more materials and I can finish the rest of the seat. This will replace the loveseat in my office which I will work on next.

I am so proud of myself, doing this post a bout the chair was a bit more exhausting than making the chair itself and I am so proud of myself. The post is a little tacky but it is out there and shows my humanness and I am incredibly proud of myself for how openly I stand as an imperfect human.

What is something you are proud of yourself for?

At Snugglebugs we understand how difficult it can be during the month of Valentine's for people who don't have a partner or have lost their partner or even those that have a partner and sometimes feel alone.
Due to the difficulties this month brings for so many - for the entire month of February all appointments with Snugglebugs are 20% off.
There is no better time than now to try Cuddle Therapy and see if it's right for you.

I have been a person who often tells myself "I can do that tomorrow, I can do it later. There's no deadline, I have time." "There's no deadline, I have time"
What ends up happening is I don't get the things important to me done in the time that I would like to do them and I'm sick of it. I was watching some video recently, I can't remember what, but they said this in the video. I think it was maybe a psychologist from the UK said this in one of his videos and it really resonated with me. (will try and find video)
I made this out of note cards from Officeworks and I have it on my wall of my bedroom, there's no way I can't see it and having that visual reminder there is pushing me in the right direction.

Some things that I've been putting off that I'm giving myself the deadline of one week. So these things need to be done by Wednesday the 12th of February, not a day later.
1 - I am reupholstering a loveseat that I have that I've brrn putting off.
2 & 3 - I am finishing two forms of study with Mindvalley,
2 - Mastery of Sleep
3 - Superbrain.
And 4 - I am going to start prioritising sleep again - even though there's a reason that I like staying up at the moment and I have been enjoying it.
I have someone that I've been talking to that I really enjoy the company of, however I want to be looking after my sleeping pattern and focus on the work I need to focus on to achieve what I've set out to achieve. So, even though there's something I really, really want to do, what I crave doing must take precedence. I hope this has helped you figure out some of the ways that maybe you're not approaching things in the best way for your brain and your body, because this has really helped me.
No more plan Bs, creating my own deadlines and I'm making it urgent.

What are you doing in your life right now that you're just delaying and delaying because you "always" have tomorrow?
What could you do to change that?
What is your Why for changing that?

3 Deep Breaths

You always have time for 3 Deep Breaths, no matter what you're doing.

If you're late, what's the harm in being a minute later while carrying an air of calm and clarity with you?

Take 3 Deep Breaths.

If someone is speaking to you unkindly, perhaps yelling at you, and demanding you respond immediately - you are not obligated to respond before you're ready.

Take 3 Deep Breaths.

If you're scared or becoming overwhelmed; take 3 Deep Breaths.

Breathing deeply allows our brain to get more oxygen, lowers our heart-rate and, when done regularly, can help lower our blood pressure and stress levels.

Take 3 Deep Breaths.

You always have time for 3 Deep Breaths.

Yesterday, at 5.40pm, I was on ABC Gold Coast for International Hug Day. I was more excited than nervous, to be honest, and I had a really good time, even though I think I fumbled up some of my words a little bit. Let me know if you heard me, though.

Very exciting! Very nerve-wracking!

What's something you've always wanted to do that's made you nervous?

...just how valuable touch is.

From recently widowed persons, to people who lost their life-partner long ago, right to those who haven’t yet found their life partner - touch is an invaluable asset to our emotional wellbeing.

I remember one of my disability clients was so sick and in hospital and I was worried that they would die. Not only die; but die incredibly bored, in a sterile, medical environment with none of their belongings that they loved and cherished nearby and no entertainment.
Hospital TV’s are not cheap and both my client and I both couldn’t see the reason to pay such a high fee for daytime TV. Bright Idea: I download some shows and movies I thought they might like onto Netflix on their iPad and I brought it in. Initially I tried sitting next to them and holding the iPad in a position they could see but it was so tiring for my arms I couldn't maintain it for more than a few minutes without them aching. They said it was ok, don't bother, don't tire yourself for my benefit, they would deal with being bored.
In the end, with their consent, I pulled them to one side, as they couldn’t move their own body, I laid down next to them and had my upper arms by my side and my forearms in front of me at 90 degrees as that was the least-impactful way I could hold the iPad in place. They commented on how they could feel every little twitch and wiggle of my body and that I basically never stopped moving. We did that for hours during my shifts over the next few days and they got better.
I'm not implying that the closeness healed their illness, not at all - however, I believe the companionship and care from another human helped them find a deeper will to live that led to their immune system finding strength to fight their illness.

I feel blessed to have had the experiences I have had in my industry and they have led to me really truly believing in this work.

I work with touch-aversive and touch-starved individuals who are stressed and verging on burnout. So; why do I, a Cuddle Therapist, love cuddle therapy?
There have been times in my life that I have been so profoundly sad and some of those times I have been fortunate enough to receive platonic touch and it has been so helpful for me.

I remember at 17 finding out my boyfriend had cheated on me with someone of a very mature age (30 yrs my senior) and I felt so small, unattractive and undesirable. I was walking and this woman saw me, she was actually packing her car ready to leave the train station and she stopped what she was doing and she chatted with me. It wasn't long, only three or four minutes and I felt _so_ awkward having a stranger see me in such pain and being so kind and non-judgmental.
I remember her hugging me, holding me and I remember how safe I felt. I remember what a wonderful scent she had, like a mother or a grandma; someone wonderful and maternal and I didn't leave him yet but I eventually did and the words that she shared with me; that I was worth more, that I would eventually find someone, many people even, who would love me and treat me well but I hadn't been treated well here. These kind words always kept coming to me and that's the reason that I ended up leaving him.
I wish I could thank that woman. It was almost 10 years ago yet it still pops up in my head regularly. People's kindness and connection and the love from another fellow human who is just seeing you as a human is so powerful and so healing and that's one of the reasons I love cuddle therapy. I've had more similar interactions but this is a big one for me.

Train station lady,
If you ever happen upon this: thank you from the bottom of my heart and my soul thank you so much for showing me such kindness when I really needed it; that kindness made my world a better place.

Happy 2025 everyone. I haven't posted in three months so; - woohoo! ""Epic FAIL!!!"

Now; I could tell myself that I have looked a fool and fumbled my business; in full view of everyone on the internet, I could tell myself I've failed quite miserably in the public eye and I could offer myself some quite cruel judgement "I'm not good enough" "I'm bad at social media" "I'm a terrible small business owner" and that would be some Grade A unhealthy thinking; which I don't love and isn't the example I'd like to set. Instead; I will use this opportunity to conduct a lesson in Healthy Thinking (thanks Tom Mulholland)

My thoughts are my choice and they lead to how I feel. Like many of life's trials in this circumstance I have two choices:
1. I can choose to look on the bad side.
2. I can choose to look on the bright side.

I'm choosing to look on the bright side and I've decided I'm going to approach my MIA approach to Social Media in a positive way. Instead of labelling myself as someone who has
"failed publicly" I have decided I am labelling myself as someone who has PERSERVERED publicly. Some of us are so scared of failing, so scared of judgement, so scared of people laughing at us and sometimes all we need is a role model to show us - it's OKAY to fail! It's okay to fall off the journey of growth that you're currently on; so long as each time you fall over you KEEP GETTING UP.

Try AGAIN.
FAIL AGAIN.
Fail better.
