Cardioversion is a simple and effective treatment option for patients experiencing irregular heart rhythms like as Atrial Fibrillation (AFib).

This hospital-based procedure involves delivering a synchronised electrical shock under light anaesthesia, allowing the heart to reset and return to its normal rhythm.

🫀 How does your heart know when to beat?
Your heart has its own built-in electrical system that keeps everything ticking. Known as the cardiac conduction system, it controls your heart rate and rhythm — adapting to your body’s needs, whether you’re exercising or at rest.

Key players include:
⚡ S-A Node – your natural pacemaker
⚡ A-V Node – the electrical bridge between heart chambers
⚡ His-Purkinje Network – delivering the final signal to the ventricles

But when that system doesn’t work properly, it can cause arrhythmias – heartbeats that are too slow (bradycardia) or too fast (tachycardia) – and may lead to dizziness, fatigue, or more serious complications.
