Last week, Dr Morgan Etienne attended the Youth Health Conference in Sydney. Over two days, health professionals joined with passionate youth representatives to discuss and learn about the issues impacting adolescents and young people under 25.

Topics explored included strategies to empower and engage young people in their health, chronic illness, va**ng, social media and health, mental health, climate change health and intergenerational action.

The overwhelming message was that our young people want to be listened to and have their concerns taken seriously. They want their experiences and ideas respected, and want to be involved in solving problems that affect them. They want clinicians they can trust, and places they feel safe.

Here at Neighbourhood Medical, our doctors, nurses and receptionists strive to do exactly this.

Last week, Dr Nicole White attended Queensland Parliament House with the RACGP to promote flu vaccination to Members of Parliament.

Dr Sarah McDonnell was delighted to have the chance to speak about managing pelvic pain in primary care at the annual Australian Pain Society conference in Adelaide this week.

Our GP and nurse led endometriosis and pelvic pain clinic was the first of its kind to be opened in Brisbane and provides services to approximately 200 patients each year. It is supported by federal grant funding and Brisbane North PHN.

The stories we hear each and every week and the enormous difference seen after personalised, multidisciplinary care is provided drives us and makes this work some of the most rewarding we do.

Flu season is here!

Flu vaccines are now available at Neighbourhood Medical. All Queensland residents aged 6 months and over are eligible for a government funded flu vaccine. We also offer the FluMist nasal vaccine. Available under the funded program for children aged 2 to 5 and privately for ages 6 to 17.

Bookings can be made via our website or the HotDoc app. Families attending the same session will be accommodated together, even if appointment times vary slightly. New patients are welcomed, please select new patient when booking online. If you already have an upcoming appointment with your GP, your flu vaccine can be provided at the same visit. Simply let our team know on arrival.

Premenstrual Disorders Awareness Month is here, and this year’s theme is Progress, Not Perfection.

For those living with PMDD, progress isn’t always obvious or dramatic. Sometimes it’s finally being believed, sometimes it’s finding a name for what you’ve been experiencing, and sometimes it’s simply having one more steady day than the month before.

These moments may seem small to the outside world, but we know they matter!
