It’s a common belief that reading in dim light can permanently damage your eyes, but this isn’t true. Poor lighting might make your eyes feel tired or strained, but it doesn’t change the physical structure of your eyes or cause lasting harm.

In fact, taking simple steps like using adequate lighting and giving your eyes regular breaks can reduce fatigue and keep your vision comfortable. Temporary discomfort from squinting or eye strain won’t make your eyesight worse.

Vision changes over time are usually caused by natural ageing or underlying eye conditions — not by everyday activities like reading in low light. So, focus on keeping your eyes comfortable and healthy!

Did you know almost 50% of Australians over 40 have some form of vision issue? Many common eye conditions like presbyopia, cataracts, glaucoma, and age-related macular degeneration become more likely as we get older. The tricky part is that some of these problems don’t show obvious symptoms in the early stages, so regular eye exams are key to detecting them early and protecting your long-term vision. Taking care of your eyes now means better sight and quality of life as you age.

This is your sign to stop scrolling and give your eyes a break.
If you’ve been staring at your screen a little too long today, it’s time to refresh that tear film and reset with a quick round of eye exercises.

Do it twice. That’s it. Your eyes will thank you.

At The Eye Health Centre, our dedication to your vision goes beyond Brisbane and surrounds. Our team regularly gives their time to philanthropic efforts worldwide - helping restore sight in communities that need it most.

We’re proud to share that Bec, our dedicated Surgical Coordinator from Springfield, has recently enlisted in the Australian Army as a reservist. She aspires to contribute to future defence humanitarian efforts. Her commitment to service and community is truly inspiring.

Dry eye disease and tear film dysfunction can have a major impact on patient comfort, vision, and long-term eye health. A stable tear film is key to successful clinical outcomes, and at The Eye Health Centre, we’re proud to be at the forefront of dry eye treatment in Brisbane.

By supporting practitioner education and collaboration, we aim to help more professionals confidently manage chronic dry eye and deliver better outcomes for their patients.

Thank you to The Dry Eye Society for the opportunity to host, and to everyone who joined us for such a valuable session.

Struggling with focus? It might not be your lens, it could be your cornea.

Around 65% of your eye’s focusing power comes from the cornea, so when its shape changes (as in keratoconus), your vision can become blurry or distorted, even if your lens is perfectly clear.

If glasses aren’t helping like they used to, it might be time for a closer look.
