12 years ago walked through doors and changed my life.

I could write all the professional, business owner words that of course would be wishing her the best in everything ahead and praising everything she has brought to JCN. Honestly that goes without saying, but it is only the tip of the iceberg.

I've told Rissy before, she is the "C" in JCN.

Rissy has been my ride or die through every iteration of The JCN Clinic and her passion and belief in wanting to create what we have built together has been my steady rock. Together we have built an industry leading name, decade long podcast and held wellness events that will go down in history.

Behind the scenes we have laughed so hard, shared 'mic-drop' thoughts (she knows what I mean), cried, stressed, cursed (she always takes the trophy on this one) and laughed some more.

The silver lining is friendship goes on. You know that saying – ‘friendship is for a reason, a season of a lifetime’. This friendship is a lifetime.

So, that being said, Rissy I (we) wish you so much happiness in your next steps, whatever iteration they may be. As long as the future you has plenty of time for fishing, camping and time with Bug I know you will be happy.

This is a pretty accurate snapshot of recipes I use on rotation every week/day to day as a clinical nutritionist.

1. Easy Macro Bowl (regular lunch option using leftovers)
2. Tray Baked Vegetables (often make it into the above)
3. Crispy Sage & Anchovy Pork (staple evening meal)
4. Turmeric & Sesame Seed Sweet Potato Wedges (LIFE)
5. Pimped Up Matcha (LIFE EVERY DAY).

Everything is gluten free and dairy free, with a strong focus on supporting gut health so you’ll see meals built with macronutrient balanced focus - quality protein, complex carbs (lots of vegetables & fibre diversity) and fats that help keep energy up and digestion on track.

No extremes, no major fuss or overthinking. Just meals that work with your body.

Honestly, this is why I created e.a.t. To make this way of eating feel easy and realistic.

If you want the exact recipes behind these, they’re all inside e.a.t - link in bio.

Its that time of the year! This is my favourite Hot Cross Bun recipe.

These buns are PACKED with flavour and not for those that like those spongy spice devoid supermarket buns.

If you want a Hot Cross Bun that hits you in the face with loads of dried fruit, spices and malty deliciousness then this recipe is for YOU.

NEW EPISODE!

In this episode of The JCN Clinic Podcast, Clinical Nutritionist Tammy Shemesh joins Jessica for a powerful conversation on why so many “healthy” women are still struggling with their periods.

Tammy shares her journey into nutrition and what led her to specialise in women’s health, before we dive into what true menstrual health actually looks like from a clinical perspective. Tammy also shares why so many women have come to accept symptoms like PMS, irregular cycles, and painful periods as “normal.”

We explore the key drivers behind menstrual imbalances we’re seeing more than ever in clinic, including under-fuelling, chronic stress, gut health dysfunction, and the impact of modern lifestyle habits on hormonal health.

We also unpack the rise of “hormone hacks” on social media - what they get right, where they fall short, and why a foundational, individualised approach is key when it comes to restoring your cycle.

Tammy shares how she approaches menstrual health through clinical nutrition, focusing on sustainable, long-term strategies that support the body to heal rather than quick fixes or symptom suppression.

If you’ve ever felt confused about your cycle, dismissed in your symptoms, or like you’re doing “everything right” but still not seeing results, this episode will leave you feeling informed, validated, and empowered with a clearer path forward.

Chronic reflux is one of the most common digestive complaints we see in clinic… yet so many people are stuck managing symptoms rather than understanding why it’s happening in the first place.

In this episode of The JCN Clinic Podcast, Clinical Nutritionists Jessica Cox and Christine Smith unpack chronic reflux (including GERD/GORD) and why it’s not always as simple as “too much stomach acid”.

We talk through:

• What reflux actually is and why it happens
• The common medical treatments many people are prescribed
• The underlying drivers we frequently see in clinic, including gut dysbiosis, SIBO, food intolerances and stomach acid issues
• Testing and treatment approaches we use to investigate the root cause
• Real clinical case stories that show what’s possible when the underlying cause is addressed

If you’ve been dealing with ongoing reflux, relying on antacids, or wondering why your symptoms keep coming back, this episode will give you a deeper understanding of what may be happening beneath the surface.

Test, don’t guess! 🧑‍⚕️Client Case Study 📖

These test results are 12 months apart. This client was post extensive antibiotic use (month after month after month for much needed health reasons at the time).

Symptoms were chronic carbohydrate intolerance, yeast overgrowth and gastrointestinal issues alongside fatigue with exertion.

12 months on, I’m happy as to report her carbohydrate tolerance is pretty much back to normal, no fungal issues, no bloating, gas or bowel upsets and great energy even with building training load.

Now a retest was vital as it told us that we still have some work ahead to improve her resilience. Focusing on these remaining areas will only strengthen her system further. I was however so excited to see the improvements in her diversity and massive reduction of inflammation load.

I share this case as an example of how functional testing guides gut treatment so specifically and also as an insight into understanding timelines for chronic health. I think the internet and our society in general puts so much emphasis on ‘quick fixes’ that it can give us unrealistic expectations. This case shows how when you do the work you are rewarded with not only feeling better but real, long lasting change.

Wayyyyy before this current matcha trend took off my Pimped Up Matcha has been fuelling mornings…maybe close to a decade? 🤯

Want the recipe? 👉🏻 COMMENT with the emoji 🍵 below and I’ll dm you the link!

It’s probably not parasites. 👀

If you’ve been told your bloating, constipation, diarrhoea or abdominal pain must be “parasites”… this episode is for you.

In The JCN Clinic, we see so many people jump straight to expensive parasite cleanses without proper testing, without clinical reasoning, and without addressing the far more common drivers of gut symptoms.

And unfortunately?
Those cleanses can make things worse.

In this episode of The JCN Clinic Podcast, Christine and I unpack:

• Why parasites are often over-blamed
• The much more common causes of gut complaints
• How social media has fuelled parasite fear
• Why random cleanses can be a waste of money
• What you should be investigating instead

Gut health isn’t about chasing trends.
It’s about strategy, testing and clinical nuance.

🎧 Listen to the full episode now and start focusing on what’s actually driving your symptoms.

Are parasites really to blame for your bloating, irregular bowel habits or persistent gut discomfort? Or are we jumping to conclusions?

In this episode of The JCN Clinic Podcast Show, Jessica and Christine unpack one of the most common assumptions they see in clinic - that parasites must be the root cause of ongoing gut symptoms.

Spoiler: in most cases, they’re not.

Instead, they break down the far more common (and often overlooked) drivers of digestive issues and why jumping straight into a parasite cleanse can be unnecessary, expensive and even harmful.

In this episode, they discuss:

- Why parasites are often over-blamed in the wellness space

- The much more common causes of bloating, gas, abdominal pain and irregular stools

- How social media has fuelled fear-based parasite narratives

- The risks and downsides of self-prescribed parasite cleanses

- Why proper testing and clinical reasoning matter

- Practical, evidence-informed recommendations for common gut complaints

- How to take a more grounded, strategic approach to improving gut health

If you’ve ever wondered whether parasites are really the culprit or you’ve been tempted by a cleanse this episode will help you step back and look at your symptoms through a more balanced clinical lens.

NEW: Bonus Episode: 🎧 When the Finish Line Isn’t the Ending: My Kosciuszko 100 DNF

In this bonus episode, I finally sit down with Dameon (or known to many as Hubbard), to unpack my DNF at the Kosciuszko 100 in November 2025.

We walk through the full journey: the lead-up to race day, the setbacks along the way, the injury that complicated everything, and the turbulent decisions with making it to the start line. I share what it was like running with an injury, the moment I knew that finishing the race was slipping away, and the emotional weight of making the call to DNF.

I also reflect on why I think the injury happened, while acknowledging that sometimes you can never fully know. I share my learnings that this race left me with, open up about my stress, sleep and nutrition in the lead up to the race. I also shares how I am now approaching recovery, future goals and expectations, and essentially what this DNF has taught me.
