On World Contraception Day, we're empowering Mob to make informed choices about their reproductive health.

This year's theme – “A choice for all. Freedom to plan, power to choose” focuses on promoting autonomy through contraceptive access. Contraception allows more freedom and control in decisions on education, career, relationships, parenting and pregnancies. It also allows you to better manage a range of other pelvic health concerns.

Contraception options can include:
▪️ Barriers (e.g. condoms and diaphragms)
▪️ Hormonal (e.g. 'the pill', injection and patches)
▪️ LARCs (e.g. IUD and Implanon)
▪️ Emergency (e.g. the 'morning after' pill)
▪️ Permanent (e.g. vasectomy and tubal ligation)

Yarn with your midwife or family support practitioner about available contraceptive options.

What our bubs eat is essential to their development🥰

Purees can be a great first food for bub, check out this deadly recipe for Apple and Nectarine Puree 🍎

This recipe serves 2.

Allow 10 minutes to prep.

You’ll need:
1x nectarine
1x apple (whichever your bub prefers)

Method:
1. Start by peeling the nectarine and removing the stone.
2. Follow by peeling the apple skin and removing the core.
3. Grate apple and nectarine.
4. Cook the grated fruit for 3-5 minutes on a medium heat to soften the fruits.
5. Take off the heat and let cool before serving to your bub.

Our tip! Swap out the nectarine and apple with other fruits like pear, peach, and more 🍐

It’s always a deadly idea to yarn with your child health nurse for more advice on when to start solid foods for bub.

Happy Early Childhood Educators’ Day! Join us for a Q&A with one of the IUIH Deadly Kindies Educators!

What is your name and who is your Mob? 👣

My name is Kimberley Broadhurst (Appo) and my mob are Gooreng Gooreng and Kullilli

What’s a typical day for you as an Early Childhood Educator at IUIH? 📆

A typical day for me as an Early Childhood Educator involves working in community, supporting families on the northside of Magandjin/Meanjin to access their local Aboriginal Medical Service and culturally safe early childhood services. This includes help with
enrolments, birth certificates, Child Care Subsidy, or NDIS. My role is responsive to each family’s needs, with the goal of connecting jarjum to kindergarten or long day care.

What inspired you to become an Early Childhood Educator? 🥰

I come from a big Mob with plenty of nieces and nephews, who were my inspiration to share love, knowledge, and passion with other little ones. This journey eventually led me into the IUIH space, where my love for Early Childhood is now focused solely on supporting
First Nations jarjum—ensuring they have the best start to life.

What’s your advice to anyone considering becoming an Early Childhood Educator?🌻

Being an Educator isn’t about just ‘playing with toys’—it’s about nurturing little souls and helping them grow into the best version of who they want to be. It’s about being part of their village, loving and supporting them in every way we can. Sometimes, we
might be the only safe person in their lives—the only one advocating for them—and that can be life-changing. We are here to make a difference, to change lives and shape futures. So if you’re not ready for that responsibility, make space for those who are.
