There are three key players in maintaining your balance! ⚖️

👂 Vestibular System
The vestibular system is located within the inner ear and is made up of fluid-filled canals and sensory receptors. It is responsible for detecting changes in head position and movement and provides important feedback to the brain about our spatial orientation and motion.

👁️ Visual System
Our eyes are powerful sensors that provide visual information to our brain about our position and the movement of our surroundings.

🦵 Proprioceptive System
Embedded within our muscles, tendons, and joints is the proprioceptive system which provides feedback to the brain about the position and movement of our body. This internal sense of awareness helps us make automatic adjustments to our posture and movements, helping us maintain stability and coordination without even thinking about it.

Sometimes the communication between these systems can go awry, affecting your balance or leading to other symptoms such as headaches, dizziness or changes to your vision. Our physiotherapists Emily and Kirby can assess and treat many issues that affect balance or guide you to the right health professional if needed.

Feeling dizzy, off balance... or just off? You’re not alone.

Vestibular disorders can cause symptoms like vertigo, imbalance, and chronic dizziness. Vestibular disorders can be tricky to diagnose. In fact, many people go undiagnosed for years which can lead to frustration, persistent symptoms and inappropriate treatment.

Let’s raise awareness and support those living with these challenging (but often hidden) conditions. 💬

We’re proud to share that our very own physiotherapist, Carol, has been selected to represent New Zealand at the 24-Hour World Running Championships in France this October! 🌍🇳🇿

Outside of the clinic, Carol is an ultra-distance runner, and her commitment and passion inspire us every day. This selection is a true testament to her dedication.

Carol is currently self-funding her journey, as this event is not financially supported by NZ Athletics. If you’d like to learn more about her story, she’s shared it here:

We’re all cheering Carol on as she takes on the world stage! 💪

Please note: This is a personal initiative, shared with permission. Donations are entirely voluntary and not affiliated with our clinic or services.

Recovery isn’t just physical - it’s emotional too. 💛

On this , we want to remind you...

It’s okay to not feel okay, and it’s more than okay to talk about it!

Pain can be draining, and progress isn't always linear. If you’re struggling, let someone in.

At Allsports Physiotherapy, we're focused on the well-being of every person who steps through our clinic doors. This includes the health and safety of our local communities, which is you, our patients, as well as our team members.

➕ | We want to reassure you that we are closely monitoring the Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation, are regularly updating our internal policy and processes according to any daily mandates and recommendations from the government and the Department of Health.

➕ | Following government guidelines, we are asking all people who have travelled in the last 14 days not to present to the clinic. We are helping to reschedule appointments, and we look forward to welcoming these patients back following the appropriate period of quarantine.

➕ | We are asking patients to let us know if they are showing signs or symptoms of the Coronavirus. Should this be the case we are rescheduling appointments and requesting clearance by their GP or evidence of a returned a negative test.

➕ | We have made hand sanitisers and hand-washing facilities available to all our team members and patients within the clinic. We are following best guidelines from the Department of Health for cleaning our clinic facilities, waiting areas and equipment.

➕ | Where possible clinics are being re-arranged to ensure there is less close contact between patients, and as able we are moving our patients quickly through and away from the common areas.

Please let us know if you have any questions. A big thank you from the Allsports Calamvale team!
