๐Ÿšซ Common First Aid Mistakes โ€“ Are You Making These? ๐Ÿฉน

In an emergency, itโ€™s easy to fall back on myths or outdated advice โ€” but some first aid mistakes can make injuries worse, or even become life-threatening.

Here are some of the most common errors:

โŒ Tipping the head back during a nosebleed
โŒ Putting butter or ice directly on a burn
โŒ Not cooling a burn long enough with water
โŒ Spitting on someoneโ€™s cut
โŒ Washing out a knocked-out tooth with water
โŒ Applying heat to a sprain or fracture
โŒ Trying to remove debris from an injured eye
โŒ Ripping off dry gauze from a bleeding wound
โŒ Skipping medical care after a car accident
โŒ Using ipecac syrup to induce vomiting

โœ… Weโ€™ll teach you the right way to respond.

These injuries often come with other complications:
๐Ÿ’” Cardiac arrest

๐Ÿฉบ Vital Signs: Small Checks That Save Lives

A good set of vital sign observations can give ambulance, nursing, and medical teams critical insight into a casualtyโ€™s condition โ€” even when itโ€™s not obvious to the first aider.

๐Ÿ” Vital signs help assess:
โ€ข Pulse
โ€ข Breathing
โ€ข Conscious state
โ€ข Skin condition

These signs offer a window into how the casualty is doing โ€” and how they're responding to treatment.

โœ… Practice infection control โ€“ wash hands, wear gloves
๐Ÿงผ Clean the wound โ€“ use mild soapy water, rinse with clean water
๐Ÿงฝ Remove debris โ€“ use sterile tools or flush with saline under pressure
๐Ÿงด Clean the surrounding skin โ€“ clear away any contaminants
๐Ÿ“ Dry gently โ€“ pat the area, donโ€™t rub

If youโ€™re dealing with wounds regularly at home or work, it might be time to upskill.

๐ŸฉธDid you know?
If a body part is amputated, donโ€™t freeze it! โ„๏ธ๐Ÿšซ

Freezing can destroy tissue, making reattachment impossible.
โœ… Instead, hereโ€™s what to do:
1๏ธโƒฃ Wrap the amputated part in waterproof material or seal it in a plastic bag
2๏ธโƒฃ Place the bag in iced water โ€“ not directly on ice
3๏ธโƒฃ Send it to hospital with the casualty

๐ŸงŠ Cool, not frozen โ€” it could make all the difference.
