Alternative Rolling Blends

Inhaling herbs is a tradition that dates back to Ancient times. In the old days, it was considered a sacred ritual rather than the personal and social gratification we know today.

We are all about harm reduction and offer alternative rolling blends for this reason.

Ancient Rolling Herbs

Smoke produced from anything does irritate the mucous membrane. Using herbs does not take away this side effect.

However, the herb that you inhale, the amount and the frequency are factors that distinguish whether it is safe or harmful. Smoking therapeutic herbs temporarily to alleviate a health malady is not always bad.

Not all herbs are suitable though. It is best to do your own research before trying it.

To***co leaves, a widely used herb in ci******es and related products, are likewise unsafe. Cultivated ones have high concentrations of ni****ne which can adversely effect the nervous system.

Here’s what you can roll with instead:

Mullein
Mullein (Verbascum thapsus) is a balancing herb that enables the body to gain its balance through its smoke. It is a soothing herb that brings a cooling instead of a heating effect. Mullein is great for respiratory problems. It dries the moisture and relaxes the airways to regulate normal breathing.

Mixed with coltsfoot, this formula clears congestion from the lungs and lowers excess mucus, as well as calming coughs, wheezing, improving asthma and COPD symptoms.

Blue Lotus
Blue lotus (Nymphaea caerulea) has been used in herbal remedies for a long time. Smoking blue lotus flower activates its psychoactive and medicinal compounds to create gentle euphoria. It helps improve the mood and reduce stress.

Damiana
Damiana (Turnera diffusa) is best for relieving anxiety and depression. Smoking its dried leaves and flowers induces relaxation and helps elevate the mood. Damiana is also a powerful aphrodisiac.

Calendula
The delicate gold petals of calendula (Calendula officinalis) are smokable. It is used in many smoke blends to create a fully balanced blend. As calendula burns, it releases its anti-inflammatory properties to ease muscle spasms.

Gotu Kola
Indian pennywort, or Gotu Kola, is another ancient herb that has been used in herbal smoking. Indian and Chinese folklore claim that using Gotu Kola for smoking may help in achieving a longer life. Smoking the herb affects the sympathetic nervous system. It helps in increasing alertness and speeding up heart rate to improve blood transport.

Red Raspberry
Red raspberry (Rubus idaeus) is a popular herb for brewing tea. Red raspberry is an alternative smoke for people wanting to quit ni****ne. It neutralizes the toxic substance in to***co and induces relaxation through its sedative effect. But don’t use it if you have hormone-sensitive conditions because it acts like an estrogen.

Peppermint and Spearmint
The cooling sensation that peppermint and spearmint exude makes them a popular flavoring in herbal smoke blends. They not only give a minty and tasty smoke but also impart healing properties. Peppermint and spearmint help clear the airways to relieve breathing difficulties in cough and related respiratory issues.

Lion’s Tail
Wild dagga or Lion’s tail (Leonotis leonurus) is a traditional smoking herb popular in South African tribes. It brings a mild euphoric effect that helps in mood enhancement and boosts mental clarity.

Passionflower
Passionflower (Passiflora incarnata) is a well-known sedative when brewed as a tea. When taken as smoke, it brings an enhanced sedative effect, helping the brain to calm down. It results in better sleep and relief from body pains. It also acts as a ni****ne antagonist, binding to the receptors in the brain and assisting withdrawal from to***co.

Mugwort
Mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris) has a mild psychoactive effect that enhances the brain and improves clarity. It helps with vivid recollections of dreams and eases nervous problems. Mugwort is good for respiratory illnesses, and digestive and menstrual cramps as well.

Calea Ternifolia
Calea zacatechichi, or Calea ternifolia, is called the β€œdream herb” and is used by shamans in divinization rituals. It is a oneirogen herb which means that it can enhance lucid dreams and mental clarity.

Skullcap
Skullcap (Scutellaria lateriflora) is a well-known sedative that rejuvenates the nervous system. When used in a smoke blend, it provides a calming effect to ease anxiety and uplift the mood. Folk medicine uses skullcap as a smoke to treat insomnia.

Making Your Homemade Smoking Blend

Terpenes are highly aromatic compounds that determine the smell of many plants and herbs, such as rosemary and lavender, as well as some animals.

Manufacturers use isolated terpenes to create the flavors and scents of many everyday products, such as perfumes, body products, and even foods.

Terpenes play a vital role in plants. In some plants, terpenes attract pollinators, while in other plants, they cause a strong reaction to repel predators, such as insects or foraging animals.

Some terpenes play a protective role in the plant, helping the plant to recover from damage; others act as a part of the plant’s immune system to keep away infectious germs.
Many terpenes are bioactive, which means they may affect the body. This effect will vary based on the concentration of the terpene itself and how a person uses it.

Because terpenes produce vibrant smells, they form the basis of many essential oils and are an integral part of many alternative therapies, such as aromatherapy. Inhaling the scents from some plants and essential oils may affect a person’s mood and stress levels.

Some people believe that terpenes will affect or enhance the effect a person gets from using cannabis. This is known as the entourage effect, and it implies that terpenes enhance or alter the effects of THC and CBD in the body.

Some research backs up these claims. For instance, a review in Frontiers in Neurology found that people with epilepsy who took a CBD-rich extract had improved symptoms and fewer side effects than those who took purified CBD. This suggests that the other components in cannabis, such as terpenes, may affect how the body uses CBD.

There is plenty of medical research on isolated terpenes themselves, and some may even make their way into medical use. A study in Chemico-Biological Interactions notes that many terpenes have demonstrated beneficial effects on the body and could serve as alternative medicine or therapies.

Infusions and decoctions are the most common herbal preparations, as they are both water-based.A general rule of thumb is that infusions are made with leaves and flowers, while decoctions are made with roots, bark, seeds and berries.
🌿 π—œπ—»π—³π˜‚π˜€π—Άπ—Όπ—»π˜€ 🌿
An infusion is the simplest form of herbal preparation: one we all know well. If you know how to make a cup of tea, you know how to make an infusion!
π‘―π’π’˜ 𝒕𝒐 π’Žπ’‚π’Œπ’† 𝒂𝒏 π’Šπ’π’‡π’–π’”π’Šπ’π’:
1. Take a teapot (or any kind of glass, ceramic or stainless steel vessel) and put, on average, 1 teaspoon of dried herb per cup inside.
2. Pour 1 cup of boiling water per person into the teapot.
3. Let this sit, covered, for around 10 minutes.
4. It is best to drink medicinal infusions as hot as possible.
🌿 π——π—²π—°π—Όπ—°π˜π—Άπ—Όπ—»π˜€ 🌿
A decoction uses more heat to extract the active constituents from harder plant matter. Most roots, bark, seeds, and woody parts need simmering to be effective medicines.
π‘―π’π’˜ 𝒕𝒐 π’Žπ’‚π’Œπ’† 𝒂 π’…π’†π’„π’π’„π’•π’Šπ’π’:
1. Put 1 teaspoon of plant matter per cup into a saucepan (ceramic, enamel or stainless steel – never aluminium!). The plant matter should be powdered, crushed or broken into small pieces.
2. Add 1 cup of water per teaspoon of herb to the saucepan, and bring to the boil.
3. Once you reach boiling point, cover the pot, turn the heat down and simmer for 15 minutes.
4. Strain and drink whilst still hot.

As part of our commitment to being an environmentally sustainable business, and being about more than just profit, we made the shift to home compostable packaging for our herb and tea blends. Home compostable means you can put your empty packaging in a home compost bin, or green bin where it will decompose and become organic rich soil.

This is a great alternative to regular compostable packaging, which can only decompose in commercial composting facilities.

Some facts about the packaging:

Happy Herb Co is one of the first companies to use compostable pre-made bags in Australia
All components of the packaging have been accredited as home compostable, so they have been independently tested to safely break down, which means Happy Herb Co bags will not contribute to the toxins that petroleum-derived plastics leave in our environment.
Films used in our packaging have been made from FSC and PEFC sustainable sources, and are GMO-free.
Happy Herb Co packaging does not contribute to supporting the fossil fuel industry with oil-derived plastics
Certified Compostable packaging can be organically recycled, unlike plastic recycling has a value add for the waste collection stream, which burdens the community with higher processing and resource recovery costs.
Compostable products fit more cost-effectively in the circular economy
If our packaging falls outside the waste collection stream, it will break down safely.

Summer is a stimulating time of increased activity and socialising. As the weather starts to cool and we head into autumn, it is important to nourish your body, support a healthy nervous system and cultivate a more inward energy. It is also important to support the immune system during this time. Adding herbs to your diet to keep your body warm and your blood moving can also ease aches and pains and keep your hands and feet from getting cold as the weather shifts.

Herbs such as Ginger, Astragalus, Reishi, Schisandra and Ashwaganda are great for boosting immunity and strengthening the body. Herbs such as Oats, Tulsi and Ashwagandha are great for calming an anxious nervous system, helping you to adapt to seasonal changes and embrace this time of rest and reflection.

Finally, adaptogenic herbs like Ashwagandha, Schisandra, Tulsi and Reishi are wonderful for helping the body to adjust to change and adapt to any challenges that may arise during this transitional period.

Oatstraw
Oatstraw is packed with Vitamin B-1 and magnesium, both of which help regulate your nervous system. Oatstraw is an especially helpful herb during Autumn as it helps to replenish and restore the body after a busy summer. Enjoy a cup of oatstraw tea for an extra boost of nourishment & restoration.

Ginger
Ginger is a warming and stimulating herb that is especially beneficial in autumn as it helps to counteract the cold and dampness of this season. Ginger is known to help boost circulation, reduce inflammation and support digestion. It can also help to clear congestion in the lungs and sinuses, making it a great herb for supporting your health during autumn.

Schisandra
Schisandra is a powerful tonic to incorporate into your autumn diet. This adaptogen is used to support your body’s resistance to stress and fatigue. It can also help improve mental clarity and focus, while its anti-inflammatory properties can help protect your body from cold and flu. Schisandra is also a great source of vitamins A, C and E which are vital for optimal health during cooler months.

Reishi
Reishi is a prized mushroom that has been used for centuries in traditional Chinese medicine. It is especially beneficial during autumn as it helps to boost the body’s natural defense system and provide energy to support you through the changing seasons. Reishi is also known for its calming effects, helping to ease anxiety, stress and fatigue. It can also help to strengthen the immune system, making it a wonderful herb for supporting your health during autumn.

Ashwagandha
Ashwagandha is a lovely ally to support the body during the change of seasons. It is a calming adaptogen that is known to have a range of benefits, including reducing stress and anxiety while improving sleep quality – helping you be nourished & well rested. Ashwagandha also helps to boost your immune system, making it a great choice for staying healthy throughout the cooler months.

Tulsi
Tulsi, also known as holy basil, is another great herb to include in your autumn routine. This Ayurvedic super herb is packed with antioxidants and has antibacterial properties that make it great for boosting your immune system. Tulsi is also an adaptogen, which means it helps to support your body’s stress response & is prized as a herb for the brain and meditation – great for the inward shift of autumn. The anti-inflammatory properties of Tulsi can help to reduce joint and muscle pain often associated with the changing weather. Tulsi can also help to clear your sinuses, keeping you feeling fresh in colder months.

Astragalus
Last but not least, astragalus is an ideal herb for the autumn season. This Eastern medicine staple helps to support the immune system and has been used for centuries as a natural remedy for colds, flu and other illnesses – ideally taken as a preventative & tonic to fortify the body. Astragalus is also an adaptogen, which means it helps to reduce physical and emotional stress. It is rich in antioxidants that can help to protect your body from environmental toxins and its anti-inflammatory properties can help to reduce joint pain.

Overall, herbs can help to ease the transition into Autumn and make this time of year more enjoyable. With their warming, calming and tonifying energy, they provide nourishment and support for your body and mind during this time of change. We have added to our wonderful range of Terpene infused Herb Pouches!

Introducing - Skywalker O.G. - Terpene Infused Herb Pouch 20g

This terpene enriched herbal rolling blend has been created to enhance the flavour of the herbs and mimic popular cannabis strains. Terpenes also allow improved flow of cannabinoids to the cannabinoid receptors in our bodies, so if you are blending it with other herbs that contain cannabinoids it may enhance the effect.

The herbal blend is a delectable & grounding mixture of marshmallow leaf, blue lotus, and cornflower.

Australian regulatory law prevents us from discussing or linking to resources on the wellness potential of terpene products, which are sold for flavouring purposes only. Let us focus on quality while you use your search engine to keep up to date with the latest research in this fascinating field.

The most dominant terpenes found in Skywalker are caryophyllene, limonene, and humulene. Caryophyllene is known for its spicy, peppery aroma and is thought to have anti-inflammatory properties. Limonene is responsible for the citrusy aroma of the strain and is believed to have mood-boosting and stress-relieving effects. Humulene, which is also found in hops, gives Skywalker its earthy aroma and is believed to have anti-inflammatory properties as well.

Other terpenes found in smaller amounts in Skywalker include myrcene, pinene, and linalool. Myrcene is known for its relaxing and sedative effects, while pinene is believed to have anti-inflammatory and bronchodilator properties. Linalool is responsible for the floral aroma of the strain and is believed to have calming and relaxing effects.
