Sarah's Rewilding

Sarah's Rewilding Inspiring earth connection through education, body work, movement, yoga and meditation. My name is Sarah.

Our planet is my passion and I seek to support our island home by bringing others closer to their earthly connection. I began my Earth exploration as a geologist and environmental scientist, fascinated by the way the Earth works on a physical level but that didn't quite capture all that I could sense! I began a deeper journey into the spiritual workings of our planet home through movement and stillness practices. My life is now dedicated to furthering my knowledge of our interconnectivity with our home, sharing my learnings through education, yoga, meditation and Ka Huna bodywork offerings. I bring a deep respect and understanding to my teaching and attempt to offer a compassionate and radiant yoga practice with an aim to expand your heart, your place in this wild world and to provide a supportive environment within which you can safely explore your boundaries.

At the beginning of each of my classes, I share a brief yet authentic Acknowledgement of Country to the First People of the place we meet at. Last night however, something different happened. As I spoke the words, this acknowledgement created an energetic shift, enough to give me full body chills, calling me to dive in with those present. I don't know exactly what it was, but unlike my usual teaching (demonstrating set up and then talking through the postures), I joined them for the practice which added an authenticity to my teaching, highlighted to me by one of my favourite regulars 💕. After class, another student shared that they felt like a more distinct healing energy was around them, helping them to settle, shift stagnation and release more fully. It reminded me that no practice is the same and that we are a conduit for the flow of earth's unmistakable energy.

Grounded is the word that kept creeping into my mind throughout the class, whole, present and connected. I love this practice and the teachings that bubble up in each iteration of my classes. Magic happens when we acknowledge and pay attention to the energy held by place and are open to explore within it ✨️

Heaven? Maybe but definitely the source of the sweetest sky nectar around💧

Tooloona Creek circuit at Woonoogoora on Wangerriburra County (Lamington NP). 20 km of lucious, subtropical rainforest with stands of ancient Antarctic beech trees holding the earth since Gondwana days.

This place is my soul home. I've cared for and been cared for by this Country over the years. In 2023, I'll be returning to this and other places like it for the kind of nourishment only the wilderness provides. Offering folks less comfortable in the wild, the opportunity to deeply connect to place has formed the core of my practise and teachings over the years and I'm looking forward to being in that seat once more.

How's your soul? Existentially, how are you feeling? Are you feeling useful? Do you have a reason for showing up? Is it enough?

I've been asking myself questions like this for as long as I can remember. But these heavier days feel as though time has compressed on itself like a concertina, and there's so little space between events, that the crazy has crept in. In an ever connected, ever expanding global population, that witness the chaos from all around, and are personally touched by it, of course we will contract ever inward! It's sensible to pull back to only the most trusted, essential in times of survival.

This global retreat has come with an increasingly fearful, untrusting people, where those basic needs being met, has resulted in segregation, civil unrest, and a whole ton of unstable minds. Of course the system as a whole doesn't know how to move forward! We are the system!

Existentially then, how do/will you respond to this beast that continues to claw at your deep vulnerabilities and prevent you from accessing success?

My own journey has had me completely retract from all of it, turning away from supporting others to protect myself when I felt most vulnerable. It's instinctive. After an unspecified amount of time (that human manual is pretty light on details), some part inside needs/wants to poke their head out and say, "is it safe to come out now?"

Is it? Probably not but, the only way for you to really be able to show up is to find a way to feel and as safe as possible, in this wild weather. You gotta put your coat on. Don those boots and prepare yourself for the uncertainty ahead.

Preparing ourselves for anything perceived as unsafe, requires an inner trust in self, which might be the reason you feel unsafe in the first place! But, there are many ways you can prepare yourself and release uneasiness, not least of all,
🥕feeding yourself well,
🧘🏽‍♀️listening to your body,
🤸‍♀️moving your body,
👃breathing deeply,
🤲 bringing to mind the memories of being supported by kind, loving people throughout your life and
💞 knowing to seek support when you need it (I'm not always great at this...)

From here, we can begin.

In the places where all the elements play, beauty thrives in abundance. Earth, air, water, fire and space. Using just our human senses, we can be witness to the magic. Do you sense it?

I 💚 ferns! They're tough and delicate and spell abundance. 🌿 There are some 100 species of ferns in the Lamington National Park rainforest and you can see them in all their splendour right now! Ferns thrive in the rain and when spores resting in the soil receive moisture, they quickly carpet the forest floor with a thick mat of lush symmetry.

Lamington was declared a national park in 1915, and named part of the Gondwana rainforests of Australia World Heritage area in 1994. Gondwana was the supercontinent, made up of Africa, Madagascar, South America, Australia, Antarctica and the Indian subcontinent. Around 300 million years ago, it began to break up and the continents we know today started drifting towards their current resting places

Species such as the Antarctic beech - named for the location of their discovery as petrified trees - have remained essentially unchanged in this forest since that time 😲🤯

This is an extremely special place. When you next visit, tread lightly and respectfully of it's deep and significant history. We are all just visitors 🌈🥾🌿

The Story

“Laya: Lying down. Melting, absorption in. Rest, repose. Place of rest, residence, house. Sport, diversion, merriness. Delight in anything. An embrace. In music, time. A kind of measure. The union of song, dance and instrumental music. A pause. A swoon. The act of sticking or clinging to. To disappear, to be dissolved or absorbed.” - Dr. Lorin Roche, The Radiance Sutras.

~ EARTH ~ WATER ~ FIRE ~ AIR ~ AETHER ~

My name is Sarah. Our planet is my passion and I seek to support our island home by bringing others closer to their earthly connection.

The role of yoga in my life has developed from 16 years of personal practice into a passion for sharing it with others. I left my career as an environmental scientist in early 2015 to surrender to the calling of yoga, and travelled to Ubud, Bali to receive 200 hr International Yoga Alliance teacher accreditation in Anusara-based Hatha Yoga. Later that same year, I completed 50 hr Yin Yoga teacher training with Joe Barnett at Shri Yoga, Brisbane, sparking a deeper interest in the complexities and uniqueness of the human body, the mind and the breath that moves us. In 2018 I completed my Level 2 training with an additional 350hr Core Yoga Teacher Training here in Brisbane. It has been a journey of personal discovery, self development and how this translates into shared offerings.
