Heart of Australia Heart of Australia delivers specialist healthcare to people living in rural and remote communities

Heart of Australia is a rural health program that embodies the most innovative approach to frontline specialist medical service delivery. Heart of Australia delivers monthly specialist medical investigation and treatment clinics to rural and remote communities across Queensland - breaking the grip of distance that denies rural and remote-area Australians easy access to specialist services. Currently operating in Queensland with a planned expansion to other states in the foreseeable future.

Sometimes the number of specialist health tests can feel overwhelming. Rest assured your GP or cardiologist will suggest a test for you based off your symptoms.

An Electrocardiogram (ECG) measures the electrical pulses that trigger your heartbeat.

A Transthoracic echocardiogram provides is an ultrasound of your heart chambers and valves.

An Exercise Stress Test is used to measure blood supply to the heart, your heart rate and blood pressure. It involves walking on a treadmill while an ECG is completed to see how your heart performs when it is asked to work harder.

A Stress Echocardiogram involves two heart ultrasounds, before and after exercise, and an ECG while you exercise.

We had a fantastic time hosting an education dinner in Emerald for the local healthcare professionals, run by our cardiologist Professor Karam Kostner.

The GP Education Program is proudly supported by , and aims to bring professional development opportunities to the door of local rural healthcare providers, so they can deliver the best quality care to their patients.

You may have noticed our new fleet of CT trucks have a unique design. The iconic Kimberley image of a Boab tree features Indigenous detailing produced by local Kalkadoon and Torres Strait Islander artist, Laurie Anno, for Heart of Australia.

The Boab imagery was chosen for its symbolism of strength, healing, and connection in Australia's remote landscapes. With the Boab standing tall on the mobile clinic, it speaks to a powerful partnership between tradition and innovation, where the enduring spirit of the land meets compassionate care on wheels, ensuring no Australian is left behind.

Arrow Energy has been our Foundation Partner since before our first truck launched in 2014. Recently, our team of clinicians had the pleasure of meeting many of their lovely staff who participated in a preventative health clinic in Dalby.

It was a great day for all involved onboard HEART 6!

A fibroscan is a non-invasive, quick and simple ultrasound test that provides immediate results about liver fibrosis (scarring) or fatty deposits on the liver.

Live fibrosis can be a symptom of the majority of liver diseases which can include:
🔶Fatty liver disease
🔶Hepatitis B
🔶Hepatitis C
🔶NAFLD/NASH
🔶Alcoholic liver disease
🔶Iron overload
🔶Haemachromatosis
🔶Autoimmune hepatitis.

Your GP may request a fibroscan if you have suspected liver disease.
During your test, our specialist will apply a cool jelly to the liver area (right-upper tummy) and move the probe around the skin’s surface. It is painless and no risks are involved.

Does anyone want a doughnut?

Unfortunately, these are not edible, but they can help doctors get really good insights into your health.

A computed tomograpy (CT) scan is an advanced machine commonly known as the “doughnut.” It uses X-rays and digital computer technology to create detailed cross-sectional (slices) and 3D images of your body that a doctor would like to investigate.

CT scan images show a greater amount of detail compared with an X-ray, which can only create 2D images of the body. Your GP may request a CT scan to diagnose injuries and diseases, or for surgical planning and treatment.

CT scans can be used for
🔶Identifying tumours, infections and blood clots
🔶Diagnosing and monitoring liver masses, cancer, heart disease and lung nodules
🔶Identifying muscle and bone injuries or diseases
🔶Trauma imaging for injuries
🔶Needle guidance

Our radiographers currently deliver CT scans on HEART 5, HEART 7 and HEART 8, with support from I-MED Radiology Network.

Visit our website for more information about how to prepare and what happens during the test.
