Sacrificing my body for the sake of science with Griffith Uni!

Team is running a study on the immune effects of intense exercise. Today is the initial muscle biopsy and bloods for baseline measures before the exercise trial and biopsy next week.

If you're interested in participating and are in the local Brisbane/Gold Coast area, you can reach out to the contact details on the last tile.

You get a free DEXA, v02max test, microbiome profiling and bloods! Worth it for losing a small chunk of muscle from the quad 😂

There's a lot of power in some of these tests, but either insurance doesn't cover them or GPs aren't familiar with them.

If you want optimal health, you need to move beyond the primary care system and work with people who focus on prevention and health optimisation - not disease management.

People often talk about the core pillars of health being Sleep, Stress, Nutrition and Exercise. I would argue that Environment needs to be added to that list and is why it is a part of my Evolved Health framework.

Environment entails the actual environment around us (our homes, outdoors, offices) and the substances we are exposed to throughout (or lack thereof in the context of microbes).

This connection to our environmental exposures falls into the context and research around the Exposome.

The amount of chemicals we are completely surrounded by now is terrifying. And many of these chemicals we don't even fully know the negative affects of yet.

If you care about your health and especially your fertility or longevity, then you need to be cognizant of your chemical exposures and how best to minimise them.

If you want to learn how you can minimise your exposures contact me for consulting and keep an eye out as I'll have my Evolved Health Foundations course coming out soon which will cover this topic in more detail.

The amount of chemicals in our environment now is terrifying and is a grossly overlooked cause of the modern disease epidemic.

If you live in a modernised culture, you'll need to be active in minimising exposure as these are now everywhere.

New paper shows high dose creatine improves cognitive performance in sleep deprivation.

This adds to a growing body of research showing cognitive benefits of creatine supplementation.

Of course avoiding sleep deprivation is the most important first step, but, if for whatever reason your dealing with sleep deprivation (late work, study sessions, etc), then creatine use at 0.35 g / kg can help maintain cognitive performance during that period.

I’ve been getting a lot of inquires from patients asking about MTHFR and methylation and if they can get testing done - ever since Gary Brecka was on Joe Rogan. Unfortunately, Brecka and much of what is on the internet is exaggerated or outright factually wrong (in the case of some things Brecka says). On top of that, genetic testing plays a very small role in health optimisation compared to focusing on your lifestyle - especially if you aren't even doing the basics well yet.

In this video, I explain what methylation and the methylation cycle is, the role of genetics and functional biomarker testing and how to simply improve methylation through diet and lifestyle, even if you have an MTHFR polymorphism.
