🚨Attention landholders: Do you know your role in locust management?

Under Queensland’s Biosecurity Act, landholders have a general biosecurity obligation (GBO) to manage locust activity on their property 🦗

Controlling locusts early—especially during the nymph stage—is critical to breaking their life cycle. Left unchecked, locust populations can spread to neighbouring properties and escalate into regional outbreaks, causing significant damage to crops, pastures, and vegetation.

Here’s how you can meet your GBO:
✅ Monitor your property, particularly in areas with 40mm+ rainfall in a month or where swarms have been observed.
✅ Report nymph or swarm activity immediately to the Department of Primary Industries (DPI).
✅ Control nymphs early to prevent outbreaks.
By taking these steps, you’re helping to protect your property, your community, and Queensland’s agricultural industry.

Report locust activity today
If you’ve seen large numbers of locust or nymph activity contact:
📞 Biosecurity Queensland on 13 25 23 or
