The energy goes up and down throughout the practice. The sequence is designed this way. Too often people stop at half primary, when the energy is at a low point, and never move beyond navasana.
In Intermediate the energy peaks at Nakrasana and it can feel like a struggle to keep going.

We all experience these up and downs throughout the practice and we all have the capacity to move beyond these sticky points. Focus on the breath! This is where we learn to control our thoughts, not giving in to the desire to stop but to keep going, with ease and steadiness. One by one and before you know it, it’s done 😉

This will not only strengthen our willpower and resilience but most importantly we build a strong nervous system.

Enjoy your practice.

In a disconnected world, personal connections are the real luxury.

This is not an escape from life - it is your charging station. This is YOUR time to have a break and fill up your cup, so can return home with energy and enthusiasm to do the things you love.
It is your time to polish your inner gifts. Your time to practice and deepen your understanding of yoga through dedicated workshops and discussions.
Soulshine is a unique place where you can quietly retreat in comfort, but also express your love for life through music and movement.
The choice is yours - this is YOUR time.

How to keep your practice alive?

It can feel pretty lonely to practice always on your own. Especially at home 😳 it’s easy to find more “urgent” things to do. Even cleaning the bathroom or doing the laundry becomes all over sudden top priority.

There is nothing quite like connecting to a teacher and a community. For me it can be one week a year, sometimes longer, where I get to be a student. Practicing with others is very energising and uplifting. Having help and adjustments from a teacher is a nice way to deeply connect with my practice again. No commitments, nowhere to go. It is my time to remember why I love this practice so much. Connection is important, with myself, the teachings and other practitioners, so many have become good friends over the years. When I get back home, I know I AM truly home.

Meditation is not something we can just do - it is a state that arises through deep focus and concentration (Dharana).
Often people think they ‘can’t meditate’ because their mind is too active. The mind does not become louder when we become quieter. In the stillness we become aware of the noise in our head. We can now notice how much is going on in our mind all the time and that is literally mind boggling. Controlling the mind seems like this impossible task. And why bother?
Because PEACE - internal and external - takes conscious effort. It starts by taking ownership of our own emotional state and our actions. It starts within. Ask yourself, how can I become more peaceful, how can I bring more peace and joy into my community?

Om Shanti, shanti, shanti

Happy International Women’s day. 🌺

Let’s celebrate the beauty, strength and grace that we embody.

Let’s commit to being role models to our daughters and sister’s daughters.
Let’s show them
💕 that beauty and self worth does not come from accessories but from accepting and loving ourselves the way we are.
💕that inner strength comes from being vulnerable and facing our fears.
💕that love and care is not a weakness but a superpower.

It is through our example that they (and we) learn that real self worth and confidence comes from the inside. Let’s live and lead with courage, love and joy.

Retreats are not an escape from life - they are a time for deeper connection so we become better at living.

We stop our daily DOING, so we connect again with BEING human. It’s about remembering who we are and why we are doing what we are doing. It a time to reignite and deepen your practice - this is your gift to yourself to take home with you.

In times of darkness, be the light. 🪔

Am I Good Enough?

It’s definitely not a yes or no question. Too often, and especially in the yoga world, we’re told that ‘merely turning up’ is all that matters. While that’s true on rare occasions, it shouldn’t be our status quo.

‘Good enough’ is not an outside measure. Nobody judges you as much as you judge yourself.

And what if there is some truth in it? What if this feeling of not being good enough is probably a realisation that you can be so much more than you allow yourself to be. If we always ‘just show up’, we limit our circle of what we are capable of. Our capacity to evolve and to grow as a person shrinks every time we play it safe or do the bare minimum. Whether that is on the yoga mat or in life.

When my mind wants to take me down a rabbit hole, I tell myself, ‘just one more’. This helps me to stay focused on the ‘one thing’ I am doing and it also prevents me from getting overwhelmed by the ‘big task’ at hand.

When we truly show up and give our best, the question of ‘Am I good enough’ rarely arises. And if it does, we know within ourselves that we are more than enough because we did our best. 🪷

Ashtanga Yoga & Zen

We are dedicated to the traditional teachings of Ashtanga Yoga in the lineage of Krishnamacharya as taught by Sri K Pattabhi Jois (Mysore/India). This method enables each student to learn and develop an independent and safe yoga practice. Ash Hope is long term student of Nancy Gilgoff, one of the pioneers of Ashtanga Yoga and the first western women introduced to this method.
