A sharp or uncomfortable pain around the ribs when breathing, twisting, or even reaching overhead can sometimes be related to rib dysfunction.

Your ribs attach to the spine at the back and connect to the chest at the front. They move slightly with every breath and help support normal movement of the upper body. Because of this, they are involved in everyday actions like twisting, bending, lifting and breathing.

When one of these joints or surrounding muscles becomes sensitive, it can create a localised ache or sharp discomfort. Many people notice it when taking a deep breath, turning the body, coughing, or even getting out of bed.

Because the ribs work closely with the thoracic spine, shoulders and surrounding muscles, how these areas move together can influence how symptoms present.

At Queensland Osteopathic Clinic, the focus is on assessing how the rib cage, spine and surrounding structures are functioning together. Your Osteopath may assess movement, posture and breathing mechanics to better understand your presentation. Where appropriate, management may include gentle Osteopathic techniques along with advice around movement and activity.

If rib or upper back discomfort has been affecting your day-to-day movement or breathing, a proper assessment can help guide the next steps.

15/04/2026

Pain right at the base of the spine when sitting, leaning back, or getting up from a chair is often described as tailbone pain, or coccydynia.

The tailbone (coccyx) is a small structure at the very bottom of the spine. It plays a role in weight distribution when sitting and provides an attachment point for muscles and ligaments in the pelvic region.

When this area becomes sensitive, people often notice discomfort when sitting for longer periods, especially on firmer surfaces, or when transitioning from sitting to standing. It can sometimes follow a fall, prolonged sitting, or even gradual strain over time.

Because the tailbone works closely with the pelvis, hips and surrounding soft tissues, how these areas move and load can influence how symptoms present.

At Queensland Osteopathic Clinic, the focus is on assessing how the lower spine, pelvis and surrounding structures are functioning together. Your Osteopath may assess posture, movement patterns and joint mobility to better understand your presentation. Where appropriate, management may include gentle Osteopathic techniques along with advice around sitting positions, movement and activity.

If sitting discomfort or tailbone pain has been affecting your daily routine, a proper assessment can help guide the next steps.

14/04/2026

A deep ache around the hips, lower back, or even through the front of the pelvis isn’t always coming from the lower back itself. In many cases, it can be related to pelvic girdle pain.

The pelvic girdle is made up of the sacroiliac joints, p***c joint, and surrounding muscles and ligaments. It plays a key role in stabilising the body and transferring load between the upper and lower halves during everyday movements like walking, standing, lifting, and even sitting.

When this area becomes sensitive, people often notice discomfort across the hips or pelvis, sometimes on one side, sometimes both. It may feel worse with activities like walking longer distances, climbing stairs, or standing on one leg.

Because the pelvis works closely with the lower back, hips and core muscles, how these areas function together can influence how symptoms present.

At Queensland Osteopathic Clinic, the focus is on assessing how the pelvis, spine and hips are working together. Your Osteopath may assess movement patterns, joint mobility and muscle balance to better understand your presentation. Where appropriate, management may include gentle Osteopathic techniques along with advice around movement and activity.

If hip, pelvic or lower back discomfort has been affecting your day-to-day activities, a proper assessment can help guide the next steps.

13/04/2026

A sharp or localised ache in the neck or lower back when turning, bending or straightening up is often linked to facet joint pain, sometimes referred to as spinal joint pain.

Facet joints are small joints located at the back of the spine. They help guide movement and provide stability as you bend, twist and extend. Like any joint in the body, they can become sensitive or irritated, particularly with repetitive movements, sustained postures, or after a sudden strain.

People often notice discomfort when arching backwards, turning the head, or getting up from a seated position. The pain is usually more localised rather than spreading down the arm or leg.

Because these joints work closely with surrounding muscles and discs, how the spine moves as a whole can influence how these joints feel day to day.

At Queensland Osteopathic Clinic, the focus is on assessing how the spine is moving and how different areas are working together. Your Osteopath may assess spinal mobility, posture and muscle function to better understand your presentation. Where appropriate, management may include gentle Osteopathic techniques along with advice around movement and activity.

If spinal stiffness or localised back or neck pain has been affecting your daily routine, a proper assessment can help guide the next steps.

Neck pain, stiffness or headaches after a sudden movement — particularly following a car incident — are often associated with whiplash.

Whiplash refers to a rapid forward-and-back movement of the neck, which can affect muscles, joints and surrounding structures. While it’s commonly linked to motor vehicle accidents, it can also occur from sporting impacts or sudden jolts.

Symptoms don’t always appear immediately. Some people notice stiffness, reduced movement, headaches or discomfort in the days following the event. Others may experience symptoms more gradually.

Because the neck works closely with the upper back, shoulders and nervous system, it’s important to consider how the whole region is functioning rather than focusing on one area alone.

At Queensland Osteopathic Clinic, the focus is on assessing how the neck and surrounding areas are moving and adapting. Your Osteopath may assess neck mobility, muscle function and posture to better understand your presentation. Where appropriate, management may include gentle Osteopathic techniques together with advice around movement and activity.

If you’ve experienced a recent strain or are noticing ongoing neck discomfort, a proper assessment can help guide appropriate management.

07/04/2026

A dull ache in the forearm, tightness through the neck and shoulders, or discomfort when typing or using a mouse — these are often grouped under the term repetitive strain injury (RSI).

RSI isn’t a single condition, but a general term used to describe irritation of muscles, tendons or nerves from repeated movements or sustained positions. This can develop gradually from everyday activities such as computer work, driving, tool use or even prolonged phone use.

People often notice symptoms building over time rather than from a specific injury. This might include stiffness, fatigue, reduced grip strength, or discomfort that eases with rest but returns when activity resumes.

Because these patterns often involve the wrist, elbow, shoulder and neck working together, how the whole upper body is moving can influence how symptoms present.

At Queensland Osteopathic Clinic, the focus is on understanding these movement patterns. Your Osteopath may assess posture, joint mobility and how different areas of the upper body are working together. Where appropriate, management may include gentle Osteopathic techniques along with practical advice around workstation setup, movement and activity levels.

If ongoing strain or discomfort has been affecting your work or daily routine, a proper assessment can help guide the next steps.

30/03/2026

Pain on the inside of the elbow when gripping, lifting or twisting the forearm is often referred to as golfer’s elbow — although many people who experience it have never picked up a golf club.

Golfer’s elbow (medial elbow pain) is commonly linked to repeated use of the forearm muscles that help with gripping and wrist movement. This can develop from activities such as gym training, manual work, gardening, or prolonged computer use.

People often notice discomfort when holding objects, turning door handles, lifting groceries, or even during simple daily tasks. Symptoms can build gradually, and the area may feel tender or weak over time.

Because the elbow works closely with the wrist, shoulder and upper back, the way the entire arm is moving can influence how the inner elbow feels.

At Queensland Osteopathic Clinic, the focus is on assessing how the arm is functioning as a whole. Your Osteopath may look at the elbow, wrist, shoulder and movement patterns to identify contributing factors. Where appropriate, management may include gentle Osteopathic techniques along with advice around activity and load.

If elbow pain has been interfering with your work, training or day-to-day tasks, a proper assessment can help guide the next steps.

Tingling, numbness or weakness in the hand — especially in the thumb, index or middle fingers — is often associated with carpal tunnel syndrome.

This condition involves irritation of a nerve as it passes through the wrist. It’s commonly linked to positions or activities that involve sustained or repetitive use of the hands, such as typing, using tools, driving, or even sleeping with the wrist bent.

People often notice symptoms at night, when holding a phone, or during tasks that require fine hand control. Some describe dropping objects or feeling like their grip isn’t as reliable as it used to be.

Because the wrist is part of a larger system involving the forearm, elbow, shoulder and neck, the way the entire upper limb is functioning can influence symptoms in the hand.

At Queensland Osteopathic Clinic, the focus is on understanding how the whole upper limb is working. Your Osteopath may assess the wrist, forearm, elbow, shoulder and neck to identify contributing factors. Where appropriate, management may include gentle Osteopathic techniques along with advice around posture, positioning and activity.

If hand numbness or tingling has been affecting your sleep, work or daily tasks, a proper assessment can help guide the next steps.

27/03/2026

Pain on the outside of the elbow when gripping, lifting or even turning a door handle is often described as tennis elbow — although it doesn’t just affect people who play sport.

Tennis elbow (lateral elbow pain) is commonly linked to repeated use of the forearm muscles. This can include activities like gym training, manual work, gardening, or long hours using a mouse and keyboard.

People often notice discomfort when gripping objects, lifting items such as a kettle, or when the forearm feels weak or fatigued. In many cases, symptoms build gradually over time rather than from a single incident.

Because the elbow works closely with the wrist, shoulder and upper back, the way the whole arm is moving can influence how the elbow feels.

At Queensland Osteopathic Clinic, the focus is on understanding how the arm is functioning as a whole. Your Osteopath may assess the elbow, wrist, shoulder and movement patterns to identify contributing factors. Where appropriate, management may include gentle Osteopathic techniques together with advice around activity and load.

26/03/2026

Shoulder pain when lifting your arm overhead or reaching out to the side is something many people notice — and it’s often described as shoulder impingement.

This term is commonly used when structures within the shoulder become sensitive or compressed during certain movements. People may notice discomfort when reaching overhead, putting on a shirt, or even when lying on the affected side.

The shoulder is a highly mobile joint that relies on coordination between the rotator cuff, shoulder blade and upper back. If this coordination changes — whether from posture, repetitive activity or increased load — it can influence how comfortably the shoulder moves.

For many people, symptoms develop gradually rather than from a single injury, especially with gym training, overhead work, or long hours at a desk.

At Queensland Osteopathic Clinic, the focus is on understanding how the shoulder is functioning as part of the whole body. Your Osteopath may assess shoulder movement, shoulder blade control and upper-back mobility to identify contributing factors. Where appropriate, management may include gentle Osteopathic techniques together with guidance around movement and activity.

If shoulder pain has been limiting your ability to lift, train or work comfortably, a proper assessment can help guide the next steps.

25/03/2026

Shoulder pain is one of the most common issues people notice when lifting, reaching or even sleeping — and the rotator cuff is often involved.

The rotator cuff is a group of muscles and tendons that help control and stabilise the shoulder joint. These structures work constantly during everyday movements, from reaching overhead to carrying groceries or training at the gym.

When the rotator cuff becomes irritated or overloaded, people may notice discomfort when lifting the arm, weakness, or pain when lying on that side. In many cases, symptoms develop gradually rather than from a single injury.

Because the shoulder relies on coordination between the rotator cuff, shoulder blade and upper back, changes in movement patterns or posture can influence how the area feels over time.

At Queensland Osteopathic Clinic, the focus is on understanding how the shoulder is working as part of the whole body. Your Osteopath may assess shoulder movement, muscle function and upper-back mobility to identify factors that may be contributing. Where appropriate, management may include gentle Osteopathic techniques together with advice around movement and activity.

If shoulder pain has been limiting your day-to-day activities or training, a proper assessment can help guide the next steps.

24/03/2026

Frozen shoulder — also known as adhesive capsulitis — is a condition that can gradually make the shoulder feel stiff, restricted and uncomfortable to move.

Many people first notice it when simple movements become difficult, such as reaching overhead, putting on a shirt, or reaching behind the back. In some cases, it may begin with discomfort, followed by increasing stiffness over time.

The shoulder is one of the most mobile joints in the body, relying on a balance of muscles, ligaments and joint structures to move freely. With frozen shoulder, this movement can become limited, which may affect everyday activities.

The exact cause isn’t always clear, but it can sometimes develop after a period of reduced shoulder use, injury, or as part of broader changes within the body.

At Queensland Osteopathic Clinic, the focus is on assessing how the shoulder, neck and upper back are working together. Your Osteopath may assess shoulder mobility, surrounding muscle function and posture to understand what may be contributing to the restriction. Where appropriate, management may include gentle Osteopathic techniques together with guidance around movement and activity.

Because frozen shoulder can progress through different stages, a proper assessment can help guide appropriate management at each phase.
