Lived Experience Informed Su***de Literacy is a workshop to support literacy and culture change in organisations, workplaces

This workshop is designed for organisations, workplaces and teams seeking to understand su***de more deeply and build their su***de literacy. It lays the foundations for the culture change needed to create workplaces that embrace their role in su***de prevention broadly and value the integral role of people with a lived experience of su***de to drive the culture change.

It will educate and empower employees to be proactive in recognising and responding to people in need of support, and to be part of creating a workplace where lived experience insights are valued and embedded.

This workshop is led and facilitated by Roses in the Ocean and is supported by Wentworth Healthcare.

Hello Cyclone Alfred! 🌪️ Click through for some tips and information on how to navigate an emergency situation. This little guide includes must-know numbers and hotlines, mental health supports, DFV and SA supports for men, women, non-binary folk, and and children, and also: tips on how to help someone else, how to help yourself and what to expect from your community.

For all those people feeling stressed and anxious - that is normal. You are having a very natural response to a very real situation. In these situations, anxiety is USEFUL. It spurs us to take ACTION and to protect ourselves and others. So, take a second to check in with yourself. If you notice any anxiety, stress or panic... tell it you are grateful it is here, and thank it for doing its job.

Now, the goal or next steps for you might be:

to consider the things YOU CAN control, and take action towards those things. That might be checking in on people around you, preparing your home/personal safety, reaching out to a support for help, distracting yourself with a mindful activity, having something to eat, or engaging in some self care.

Take care, stay safe, and use your supports if needed.

🌿 Over-thinking and under-feeling? 🌿

Over-thinking (feeling like you can't turn off your thoughts to the point it's impacting your day to day, mental rumination, over analysing thoughts and situations, and dwelling on thoughts) can be exhausting. It can impact our sleep, our health and our ability to focus and stay present. It can also be connected to UNDER-FEELING. This is when we feel disconnected to our emotions, struggle to even identify our emotions, struggle to express our emotions, and maybe even feel disconnected from our body.

This can result in a sense of disconnection from OURSELVES, and we might struggle to regulate our emotions.

Over-thinking and under-feeling is nuanced. Everyone is unique, and everyone's story is different. But here are some common reasons we might be experiencing this:

1. Trauma
2. This is how we have learned to cope.
3. Anxiety and worry.
4. Neurodivergence can be factor that might make us over think and struggle with emotions sometimes.
5. Perfectionism.
6. Beliefs we might have about ourselves and emotions.

The last slide has a practical tip for learning to re-connect with your emotions. Give it a go! 😊

🌋 Anger is a powerful emotion—but for many women and girls, it feels more like a forbidden one.
Society teaches us to shrink ourselves, stay agreeable, and suppress anything that feels 'too much.' But anger isn’t the enemy—it’s a signal. A sign that something needs attention, healing, or change. A signal that some part of you is standing up for YOU.

Anger helps us to hold boundaries, to advocate for ourselves and others, to speak up when we have been wronged. It's a powerful force and useful when used as a resource.

Girls/women, generally, are socialised to express their emotions more than boys/men. But when it comes to anger something happens: Many boys/men are told that the ONLY acceptable emotion for them to express is anger (and this sucks). And many girls/women are socialised to not express anger or similar emotions in a helpful way because it's seen as "unladly-like" and "displeasing". Many girls grow up receiving the message that they are not allowed to be angry - that their needs matter less than others. This can create a whole bunch of mental health issues including hyper-independence, anxiety, a guilt complex, shame, burnout, extreme people pleasing, extreme perfectionism, depression and low self-worth. Anger is one example of how men and women's mental health can be influenced by gender roles and social expectations.

If you’ve ever felt guilty for being angry, or struggled to express it in a healthy way, you’re not alone. Let’s break the cycle of bottling it up or letting it explode.

💡 What if anger wasn’t something to fear or feel shame about, but an opportunity to understand yourself better?

✨ If you feel highly anxious at the supermarket, you are not alone! ✨ It's a common place for our anxiety to spike for a number of reasons. 5 common reasons include:

1. Sensory overload.
2. Loss of control.
3. Other people.
4. Making decisions and time pressure.
5. A fear of being judged.

As you can imagine, this can be worsened when we experience anxiety around our own body-image, our relationship with food and fears around germs/contamination. Some people experience such heightened anxiety that they avoid supermarkets and other public places all together. This extreme avoidance can seriously hinder our quality of life - but it's treatable! Even those who experience this level of anxiety can learn to manage it and live a more quality life.

✨ Click through the slides to find useful tips for how to manage supermarket anxiety. The last slide gives you some extra tips.

🌻 Anxiety - at all levels and in all shapes and forms - can be managed.

So, remember: if you find yourself feeling panic or anxiety next time you go to the supermarket, 🌿 YOU ARE NOT ALONE! 🌿 There is a high likelihood that other shoppers are also feeling very anxious. Reach out for support if you need to. But ultimately, know that anxiety does not have to rule your life.

💚 It's one part of you - not all of you.
