During the last week of Term 1, our Cairns Hospital Campus had a visit from Daphne the Police Dog!
One of our Prep students, George, was so excited to meet Daphne.
The Teaching Team were lucky to share the excitement with George, and they made sure his lesson was complete in time for the special visit.
George and Daphne both look so happy and we love the Easter Bunny ears!

🍿For International Popcorn Day, young people at our Logan Campus cooked popcorn. Cups with 'Positive affirmations' were designed and these brightened everyone's day.
The Health team really loved it as well! 🍿

Young people at one of our Logan Campuses participated in a hands-on activity to create tie-dye socks to recognise ‘World Down Syndrome Day’.
This activity was designed to foster creativity, collaboration, and personal expression, with a focus on developing social and emotional wellbeing through teamwork, self-awareness, and self-management.
Wearing socks for World Syndrome Day is a symbol of awareness and support for the Down Syndrome community. The tradition encourages people to wear brightly coloured or mismatched socks to draw attention to the condition and promote acceptance and inclusion.

The smell of Easter was wafting through the kitchen at the Wattle Unit, warm and comforting, as the young people rolled up their sleeves and created Hot Cross Buns from scratch. Hands dusted in flour, they carefully measured, mixed and kneaded, working the dough until it was soft and elastic beneath their fingers. The room filled with anticipation as the dough was left to rise—then rise again—filling the space with that unmistakable sweet, spiced aroma of cinnamon and fruit.

With patience and pride, they piped delicate crosses across each bun before watching them transform in the oven to a perfect golden brown. A final glossy glaze of apricot jam brought them to life—sticky, fragrant, and irresistible.

The taste? Soft, warm, and perfectly spiced—simply out of this world.

At our Robina Yangah Campus, the teaching team have been exploring new ways to build connection and learn together.
Through short elective lessons, students shared favourite foods, hobbies and interests, adding images to a joint Canva display. Students then created a collaborative classroom poster, helping to spark conversations and strengthen a sense of safety and belonging.
Music was another way we built connection, with students contributing songs to a shared ADP playlist now played during breaks to encourage social interaction and shared enjoyment.
In Maths, students engaged in hands-on statistics activities, including Statistics Bingo and team-based matching tasks exploring bias, sampling methods and graphs aligned to Version 9 concepts. They also designed paper aeroplanes to collect and graph flight data, calculating mean, median and mode through practical investigation.
Students are loving this hands-on way of learning in English, using colourful sticky notes to build confidence and experiment with a range of text connectives in their persuasive texts.
It has been wonderful to see growing confidence, conversations and connection through these shared learning experiences.

Ashlyn‑Rose, Mishaq, Hassani and Grace,
We’re learning of habitats—each wondrous place!
Of living things wriggly, and non‑living too,
With counting and sorting and treasures to view!
They patterned and puzzled, they spelled every word,
Traced numbers and names till their handwriting purred.
Then Hassaine from Doomadgee, clever and quick,
Built a cattle station—Seuss‑y and slick!
With jackaroos mustering, jillaroos too,
Cattle trucks rumbling in hullabaloo!
Bull catchers bouncing through dust‑covered tracks,
All crafted with tiles and imaginative knack.
Our Island boy Mishaq sailed far, far away,
To oceans and wharfs where the big cranes sway.
He built holding yards where the cargo would go,
In a world of his making where ideas could flow.
And Keegan told tales of his island home feast,
Fresh seafood, big cook‑ups, where joy never ceased.
Farm boys Milos from Ingham and Derzen afar,
From Ethiopia’s lands where the tall mountains are—
Though languages tangled and words didn’t match,
Their teamwork in STEM made a marvellous patch!
With WeDo 2.0 they built wonders anew,
Proving friendship grows strong when curiosities true.

Science- Milk Magic: Colour Explosions!

Students at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital campus have been creating magic milk masterpieces using full cream milk, paper towels decorated with markers, and a single drop of dish detergent.
When the detergent hits the milk, it hunts for tiny fat droplets racing through the liquid and pushing the ink into stunning swirling patterns. This is a high impact low mess way to see surface tension and chemical reactions in action right at the bedside or classroom.

The 2A classroom at Logan Hospital went all in for St Patrick’s Day, embracing everything green with creativity and enthusiasm! 🍀💚
Our young people got hands-on making their very own natural face masks using nourishing ingredients like avocado, oats, yoghurt and honey. There was plenty of mixing, mashing, and whizzing as everyone worked together to create a soothing, skin-loving blend.
To top it all off, they designed and crafted their own labels, turning their creations into beautifully packaged products to be proud of.
This activity supported the Australian Curriculum with links to Science, HPE, English, and Design and Technologies; providing a fun and engaging learning experience.
A fantastic day of creativity, teamwork, and a little bit of self-care magic. Well done to everyone involved!

School in Hospital

Queensland Children’s Hospital School is located across several campuses in and around Brisbane’s hospital districts. Our two campus at the Queensland Children’s Hospital (QCH) cater for students from Prep to Year 12, and are found on level 8 of the QCH and on level 1 of the Salmon Building.

If you anticipate that your child will be absent from their own school for four or more school days, then they are eligible for a school service at QCH School. This service applies not only to inpatients, but to their siblings as well.

Get in touch with us if you would like to access the school service we provide.
