This is my butterfly of transformation šŸ¦‹

I painted this back in 2020 during a beautiful painting session hosted by one of my HICAT students. It was one of those moments where everything just flowed… no pressure, no overthinking, just being fully in the process.

Looking back now, I can see it was more than just a painting. It was a quiet signal of what was coming, the transformation in my own life, in the way I work, and in the lives of the students who were yet to walk through my doors.

That’s the thing about art therapy… it moves things. Sometimes gently, sometimes deeply, but always in a way that brings you closer to yourself.

I feel genuinely privileged to do this work. To witness people use art to understand themselves, to heal, and to shift their lives in ways they didn’t think were possible.

And yes… this is one I’m really proud of. It’s hanging on my wall as a little reminder of how powerful these moments can be.

I painted this back in May 2022 when I was exploring and trying different art classes. I remember having this feeling that I wanted to create something big… like, could I actually do a large canvas and pull it off?

This piece took me about three weeks, just working on it bit by bit and slowly bringing it to life. It was inspired by Frida Kahlo, but also very much my own process of stepping into creativity.

And honestly… I’m pretty impressed with myself. I didn’t know if I could do it, but I did. It still hangs on my wall as a reminder of that.

What’s your creative piece that still amazes and inspires you?

Let’s start the weekend with some neurographic art.

If you’re looking for an easy, fun, and visually appealing art project while you sit in front of the TV tonight, this is the thing for you.

Start by drawing random, free-flowing lines across your page, don’t think, just let your hand move.

Then, where the lines intersect, soften the sharp edges by rounding them out. This helps create that smooth, organic look.

Next, begin filling in the spaces with colour, use whatever colours you’re drawn to. You can keep it simple or go bold and vibrant.

There’s no right or wrong here, just flow with it. As you go, you might notice your mind calming and your focus shifting, that’s part of the magic.

Have fun!

The lotus.

This image came to me while teaching Module 10 – Art and Intuition.

To me, the lotus flower is spirituality. It’s that deep connection to something greater… to Source, to Higher Self, to God.

And here’s what I really felt in that moment…

There is no right or wrong way to have a divine connection.

Some people call it God.
Some call it the Universe.
Some call it their Higher Self.

It doesn’t actually matter what you call it.

What matters is your relationship to it.
Trusting that it’s there.
Trusting it’s always with you.
That it’s always got your back.

That you are not just this human body moving through life…
You are something more.

And creativity…
Creating…
Expressing…

That’s part of our divine nature.

We are creators.
We are connected.
We are guided.

Sometimes all we need to do… is trust it.

Back in 2021, when I was running the HICAT course at Carrara Community Centre, the centre manager asked me if I’d create a piece of artwork for the space. Something that represented community, diversity, people coming together.

Of course I said yes!! How exciting!

The only direction I was given was to include the words ā€œHelping people help peopleā€ā€¦ and the size it needed to be to sit above the noticeboard (the one behind me in this photo).

Everything else… was up to me.

I went home and began thinking and creating and this is what came through.
The hands of the community.
So different.
So unique and yet all the same.
And I have to say, I still love this piece.
I’m really proud of it.

There’s something so special about being asked to contribute art in a community space where so many people come through.

I hope this piece is still there holding that message.

Helping people help people… it just says it all.

I’m so proud to share that I am now a certified EFT Practitioner.

This has been a really big journey…
4 full days of intensive training, followed by 60 hours of working with real people.

And honestly, I could not have done this without my community.

My family, my friends, my students… and a handful of beautiful men along the way… who all put their hand up and said yes, without really knowing what they were stepping into.

And what unfolded was incredible.

EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) is a powerful process that works with the body and mind together. By tapping on specific meridian points, we help regulate the nervous system, lower stress, and create a safe space to gently face what feels hard.

From there, something shifts.

People are able to move through emotions they’ve been holding onto for years…
gain clarity and insight…
release patterns, beliefs, and past experiences…
and start showing up differently in their lives.

I’ve witnessed people transform right in front of me.

Not in a forced or overwhelming way… but in a grounded, safe, deeply human way.

And I feel so honoured to hold that space.

This work is about more than just ā€œfixing problems.ā€
It’s about coming home to yourself.
Letting go of what no longer serves you.
And stepping into who you truly are… your own unique light and purpose.

To everyone who volunteered — thank you. Truly.
Your openness, trust, and willingness to go there is something I will never take for granted.

I’m really looking forward to integrating EFT into my work, including EFT + Art Therapy sessions, when the timing feels right.

This is just the beginning.

Today in our Master Practitioner of Holistic Art Therapy class, we explored mask making, module 9.

Mask making is such a powerful way to express what’s going on inside without needing words. It can help bring out emotions, thoughts, and experiences that are hard to explain… especially things like trauma, intrusive thoughts, or images that keep resurfacing.

In art therapy, masks are often used to explore different parts of the self. What we show the world, what we hide, what we carry, and what we’re still processing.

But today, we took a slightly different approach.

Our focus was on identity… but through a positive lens.

Instead of only looking at what’s wrong or what needs fixing (which absolutely has its place), we explored what is right with us. Our strengths. Our qualities. The parts of ourselves that deserve to be seen, acknowledged, and celebrated.

This comes from the foundation of positive psychology, which we introduced earlier in the course, module 6.

Sometimes, it’s just as powerful to shine a light on who we are at our best… and to really sit with that, own it, and accept it.

Because often, those are the parts we overlook the most.

And yet, they are just as much a part of our identity.

This charcoal drawing, Self-Portrait, was created as part of the Master Practitioner Holistic Art Therapy course. The intention was to capture our image as we are, while letting go of perfection and control, and simply following the guideline of the process.

Working with charcoal was interesting. It felt easy to use, yet at the same time, there were a lot of factors to consider. I noticed I couldn’t grip the charcoal stick too tightly, it would break. It also smudged very easily and didn’t always do what I wanted it to do. But as I continued, it became easier, and I found myself adjusting rather than forcing the medium.

What has come out of this for me is less about accuracy and more about presence. I feel I captured how I showed up on that day, rather than trying to create something perfect. And to me, that’s the real work, not striving for perfection, but allowing yourself to be seen exactly as you are.

I felt very content with the outcome.

In class last week I guided the students through a simple intuitive exercise. After a meditation, I asked them to trust the first person in the room who came to mind and notice if there was a word, image, or message that appeared for that person.

One person saw a golden feather for me 🪶
She felt it wasn’t particularly meaningful, but it actually touched me deeply.

When I was younger and would meditate and connect with God, I often saw golden light and golden imagery. So hearing ā€œgolden featherā€ instantly brought that connection back to my heart. šŸ’›

A couple of days later, while walking Ollie 🐶, I found a feather. I spray painted it gold and created this piece in my art journal.

What I love about this moment is how it reminds me that intuition doesn’t have to be dramatic or complicated. When our hearts are open and we let go of trying to control the outcome, wisdom can come through the simplest things. šŸ”‘

Sometimes even through a feather.

Thank you, you know who you are šŸ™.

Symbolic art can be a really powerful creative expression!

It can allow us to move beyond perfection, beyond accuracy, beyond trying to recreate real-life imagery. It gives full permission to our inner self to use symbolism to express emotions, thoughts, themes, experiences.

And the best part? No one will ever truly know what your symbols mean unless you choose to explain them.

Some symbols carry more universal meanings, like a love heart might represent love. A music symbol might make you think of singing or sound. But we can’t place absolute meaning on anyone’s artwork other than our own.

If you looked at this image, you’d probably assume the music symbol represents music.

And while that’s not completely off the mark, the music symbol here represents fun, Happiness and Joy.

That’s the beauty of symbolism. It holds personal meaning that doesn’t need to be obvious to anyone else.

Next time you feel like painting, try using symbolism. Let a shape or a symbol carry something that feels true for you.

You don’t have to explain it.
You just have to feel it.

Creative expression has had a huge impact on me and my life.

My artistic skills have grown over the years, but what’s grown even more is my inner awareness.

Creating regularly has stretched me, humbled me, and deepened my connection to God in ways that reinforces we are creative beings.

There’s a stillness that happens when I sit with paint and release controlling the outcome.

That’s why I love sitting in the space with students. Being in a group of creative individuals, co creating and witnessing is such a special feeling.

To watch someone move through self-doubt, resistance, or overthinking… and then soften. And then see something real emerge. Those moments are sacred.

Art isn’t just creative output. It’s a doorway.
A path to transformation, expression, insights and reflection.

Feeling super grateful!

Last weekend I had my beautiful friend come and stay with me - the creative mind behind puddleverse.

Her concept is simple and brilliant: take an ordinary puddle shape and transform it into a Puddle Monstar; a curious little being with personality, expression and its own story. I genuinely recommend following her Puddle Monstar creations.

While she was here, I created these two puddle creatures. Interestingly, a theme emerged - frequency and vibration.
Swirls, waves, movement.
It wasn’t planned, but it felt completely aligned.

It became a quiet confirmation of how important it is to nurture and elevate our own vibrational frequency. The energy we hold will always find a way to express itself, sometimes through art before we even consciously realise it.
