Congratulations to AMA Queensland Foundation Medical Student Scholarship recipient Dr Rheannon Griffin, now starting her intern year at Townsville Hospital and Health Service. 🎉 🩺

We’re excited to welcome 70 newly graduated junior doctors to Townsville Hospital and Health Service, including Dr Rheannon Griffin, whose experience as a patient helped inspire her journey into medicine. 🩺🎉

After giving birth to her daughter prematurely, Dr Griffin spent time at Townsville University Hospital, an experience that shaped her decision to pursue a medical career.

“That experience showed me the impact the healthcare system can have at one of the most vulnerable times in someone’s life, and it inspired me to study medicine,” Dr Griffin said.

“Growing up in Townsville and having family in remote areas opened my eyes to the challenges in healthcare access outside major cities, and it’s what motivates me to provide equitable care for families like my own.”

A warm welcome to Dr Griffin and our entire 2026 intern cohort as they begin their medical careers in north Queensland!

The AMA Queensland Foundation Chair Dr Dilip Dhupelia extends a warm message of thanks to all supporters this festive season.

In our 25th year, the Foundation has had a huge year and is proud to have been a part of some amazing projects supporting better health in Queensland.

Continuing the legacy of our Medical Student Scholarship program, we awarded scholarships to four medical students who were experiencing financial hardship to help them continue their studies. Two have just graduated as doctors in Queensland. We provided research and training bursaries to three GPs and GP Registrars in 2025. We also supported the training of five new Bereaved Parent Mentors with the Ladybird Care Foundation and provided grants to nine organisations helping Queenslanders experiencing domestic and family violence.

This Christmas, we are proud to be raising funds for the important social cause of mental health and su***de prevention. Through the incredible generosity of our supporters, we are currently at $29,950 of our $50,000 target. With just days to go until Christmas, we are asking for your help to make our target.

That’s a wrap for 2025 🎉

Recently we held our final event of the year, the AMA Queensland Intern Workshop, in Townsville. It was designed to support final-year medical students preparing for internship in 2026. Thanks to everyone who joined us!
