My name is Eloise, and I am a London based Pilates Teacher, Meditation Guide and Sound Immersion Performer.
Pilates
I never played sport growing up, and it wasn’t until I was around 23 that I got myself a gym membership and started to move this body of mine. Back then I would do group exercise classes and cardio, but it wasn’t until I was recovering from an injury in 2012 that I really found movement through rehabilitative pilates. The one on one attention and acute body awareness was completely new to me, and to be completely honest, at first I hated it. I could barely coordinate my hypermobile limbs let alone simultaneously remember a choreographed breath pattern!! However, I was committed to reconditioning my movement patterns to heal my injury and it go easier… the moving, the breathing, the coordination, and moving my body through life.
See, the beauty of Pilates is that it’s Functional, meaning that it is designed to help you in every day movement, whether that’s walking, climbing, vacuuming, or playing with your kids. Pilates is also Low Impact, so it’s generally pretty safe, and not as hard core as some other functional modalities.
Fast forward to 2015.. There were a few things that were going on at the time, and I decided to answer that niggling feeling in my gut that I didn’t want to work Corporate anymore and wanted to help people;
Help people to move (if I could turn my catastrophic coordination around, anyone can),
Help people to love their bodies (it’s kind of cool to see what it can do), and
Help people to be happy (endorphins, anyone?)
I completed my first Mat qualification in 2016, but it’s been pretty much non-stop continuing education since then. I’m currently undertaking Basi Comprehensive Teacher Training.
Sound Immersion and Meditation
Somewhere in between my Pilates journey, I experienced my first Gong Bath during a yoga retreat. I was completely skeptical, and like most people I was confused why it was called a bath (don’t worry, I’ll clarify that later). What I experienced was so profound that I needed to know more and I needed to share this gift. For me, sound baths (the sound waves wash over you, and your clothes stay on) are a short cut to deep meditative states, and I believe in this current age of mental overwhelm and sensory assault, anything that helps us to get there is a truly wonderful thing.
I currently teach Pilates classes and Pilates + Sound Immersion, because why should the Yogis get all of the zen?
