Worth a watch tonight to see how badly misguided the Pain Industry is and its mis-understanding of the real drivers of disabling misery.
Of course pain symptoms need to be addressed.
More importantly though, the functional cause for pain needs to be simultaneously resolved. Successful management will only occur with a "two punch" approach.
The Pain Therapy Industry is failing because it only follows a "one punch" symptom based approach.
The ABC piece will misrepresent the real problem and confuse patients even more and make out that clinicians treating pain are corrupt. They're not. They're just naive, ignorant and need re-educating on Functional Causation.
Symptom based management with the least invasive strategies in and of themselves are valid but in isolation they are all futile, regardless of whether it's a warm wheat pack, panadol or a spinal cord stimulator or a highly invasive spinal fusion.
The critics and mainstream media platforms (ABC, Sydney Morning Herald, various self appointed expert authors on the topic) also need to ask the RIGHT QUESTIONS that focus on Causation. Relentlessly persecuting symptom based therapy is unhelpful and infact harmful and cruel to those experiencing pain. No where is this more relevant than in musculo-skeletal spine related pain.
The only way the Pain Therapy Industry is going to emerge from this repetitive and justified criticism is to re-educate themselves on Movement Theory and how it Causes Pain and Disability.
