We are delighted to welcome Dr Alan Nguyen to our team!

Dr Nguyen is a passionate Paediatric Allergist and Immunologist who has worked closely with children and families throughout his entire career. He completed his specialist training in internationally renowned hospitals such as The Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne, Great Ormond Street Hospital in London and, more locally, Queensland Children's Hospital. He has published in high-impact factor medical journals, co-authoring with world-leading experts. His practice philosophy is one that focuses on the patient first and foremost combined with up-to-date evidence in order to arrive at the best possible outcomes for your baby, child or adolescent. Having lived with allergies his entire life, he intimately understands the patient experience and this fuels him to treat every patient as if they were his own family. His key areas of clinical interest include paediatric food allergy, eczema, allergic rhinoconjunctivitis (hayfever), and asthma.

Dr Nguyen is currently consulting at our Grange clinic on Tuesdays and Mt Gravatt clinic on Thursdays.

We are pleased to see that peanut oral immunotherapy (OIT) will be offered to infants under 12 months of age through the Queensland Children's Hospital in association with the ADAPT OIT program later this year. This is a step forward for wider access to food OIT.
Compass Immunology and Compass Kids Clinic has offered peanut desensitization since 2018 for children under 8 years of age. If your child has peanut allergy, we may be able to assist.
Dr Kathryn Heyworth is our clinical leader in this program. Please request an appointment to discuss this further.

Our Story

Compass Kids Clinic was created with the vision for a place where children could receive health care in a homely, inspiring and fun environment, that allowed children and their family to relax. Compass Immunology at Greenslopes Private Hospital was established 16 years ago by Dr David Heyworth-Smith. This has grown to become Australia’s largest group of private Immunologists and Allergists. As more than half of the patients seen at our Greenslopes clinic are children, the need for a children’s only space became more apparent.

This new clinic at 1 Daisy St Grange Qld is special in many ways. The entire fit-out has centred on providing soothing natural spaces that are welcoming to children. We felt that health care in a standard hospital specialist centre is threatening to already anxious children so this clinic has evolved to be the complete reverse of the standard sterile cold medical suites. Natural light flows through and the walls are enlivened by the artwork of Katherine Castle as large murals.

We have an edible garden with our outdoor play area as well as relaxing zones on the verandah where you can enjoy a iceblock with your child before or after the appointment. Lingering is encouraged, and sometimes useful to digest the information provided while the child’s experience of the clinic can be a positive one.

The Daisy Street Kitchen will soon be functioning. This commercial kitchen space in the heart of the clinic will provide allergen-free food options as well as regular cooking classes for families dealing with allergies.
