Coronavirus made things very difficult to keep The Change Entity going in 2020! So we have revised and reviewed, shifted our approach and changed up our model by adding a new, local arm to our work - neurodivergent support work for neurodivergent people!
Our focus and goal has always been "homemaking", and a "home" is best built on a stable, loving foundation of security, acceptance, inclusion and hope.
In refugee and impoverished communities, we help create and maintain homes by partnering with local organisations to provide emergency relief and support, economic opportunity, community program development and urgent assistance for those in dire need.
In Australia, we plan to expand our services to include our local community of people living with a disability. Starting in February we will be providing support workers, youth mentors and therapy assistants to neurodivergent families and young people.
As an autistic woman with ADD, lived experience with mental illness, carer for multiple neurodivergent young people, and a mental health support worker with qualifications in paramedicine, and mental health, I wish to see support services provided from a platform of insight, understanding and acceptance. We aim to support autonomy and self awareness in neurodivergent families.
Just as with our humanitarian work - we wish to hear stories, share journeys, and work alongside our partners and people as we build and craft our homes from within.
We won't be ending our work with refugee communities, and our deep connection to Africa continues. But 2020 has taught us that relying on a single business model and stream is unsustainable the moment something unexpected occurs - like a global health crisis!
The Change Entity will continue to source beautiful ethically-created homewares. We remain committed to the value, hope and positive outcomes that continue to blossom from our relationships with our friends, partners and associates in Africa and the Middle East. We are shifting to a wholesale-only model, which is great news for your favourite fair trade shops, who will soon be able to stock for us rather than compete against us!
