This traffic light system at the Neurodivergence Wellbeing Conference is so respectful - and it’s not just talk, it’s actually embodied and respected in this space. The stickers are openly available, not policed by anyone, able to be changed any time by anyone. I chose green - come chat if you’re here!

A Reflection on the Space Between: On my last clinical day before a two week break (for the QLD school holidays), I’m drawn to reflect on the time ‘between’ my sessions. Parents are often surprised that it’s my job to pack up after a session - it seems so opposite to the idea of ‘teaching’ a child about personal responsibility. But it serves an incredible special purpose in my room for both the child and myself.

The child gets to leave all their psychological ‘stuff’ in the room and walk out free. And I get a little bit of time to sit with the emotions and the content of the session while I tidy up. I take note of how I feel while tidying, whether I feel able to tidy immediately or if I need to leave the room for a few minutes and do notes or something else (like get a drink of water, or move my body) before I can enter the space again. I get a moment to process the session and feel whatever the child needed me to feel and understand from our time.

A therapy space holds a very special kind of presence, similar to what some people may feel when entering a sacred place (whatever that may be for them). This job is such an incredible privilege, and it also requires so much from me as a person on so many levels. I’m looking forward to my 2 week break, while also knowing that I’ll miss my incredible clients and their families, and they’re always in my head and my heart even while I’m away from the office (held safely, but not taking away from my own needs).

Attending the second evening of the Autism Level Up training - talking about how to provide the many different forms of predictability for autistic people. This is just incredible training, truly affirming and so deeply respectful to all individuals (e.g. non-speaking and non-mouth word communicators are included and support options discussed on other slides) ❤️

Five and a half years after starting my Master of Clinical Psychology, I have finally finished the last hurdle and handed in my thesis!!!!! Once I get the results I can then commence the two year registrar program. I almost can’t believe it’s done. Life looks very different now to when I began - but my gorgeous baby is the reminder I need every day of why I chose the career I did. I am so incredibly lucky ❤️
