Knee pain doesn't always start in the knee.

How your foot hits the ground, how your ankle moves, whether you pronate β€” all of it affects how load travels up through the knee joint.

If your knee pain has never been looked at from the ground up, or even if you'd like your shoes checked, it might be worth a conversation with the team at Move Podiatry in Manly.

I had a great catch-up with the podiatry team recently - always good to connect with like-minded people locally!

What does a physio actually do for knee arthritis?

Some people assume it's just exercises and heat packs. But a big part of what I do is help people understand what's going on β€” because once the picture makes sense, the fear starts to lift.

I'm at the Health Hub, Cambridge Parade (part of the lovely Manly Village Compounding Pharmacy) every Tuesday.

If you've been unsure what your options are for your knee, a 1:1 appointment is a good place to start.

What a great morning at the Jan Powers Market on Saturday!

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to say hello, pick up a quiz card, or ask a question about their knees. The conversations were brilliant β€” and it was lovely to meet so many people from the local area.

Some really good questions came up on the day, so over the coming weeks I'll be covering them in my videos and posts. If you didn't get a chance to chat, feel free to reach out and ask or keep an eye out β€” your question might be next.

In the meantime, if you want to know more about managing knee arthritis, there's a free guide to understand all the different things that could be triggering your knee pain below, or you're welcome to book an appointment at Health Hub (part of the lovely Manly Village Compounding Pharmacy) on Tuesdays.

"Eventually you'll need a knee replacement".

That word β€” eventually β€” often lands harder than the diagnosis itself.

Here's what's worth thinking about. Surgeons mainly see the people who end up having surgery β€” but they don't see the people who went away, learned what to do, and managed so well they never needed to come back.

Those people don't return to say "actually, I'm fine."

And sadly, research backs this up: a lot of people are still being referred straight to surgery without ever being sent for physio, exercise advice, or rehabilitation first.

No one can tell you with certainty what the future holds for your knee. 'Eventually' is an opinion, not a verdict.

If you want to know what that looks like for you, book an appointment β€” online or in person if you're local to Manly.

Not sure if your knee is bad enough to see someone?

That uncertainty β€” "maybe I should just wait and see" β€” is one of the most common reasons people end up managing things longer than they need to.

Most people I treat in the clinic, have already been dealing with disturbed sleep and difficulty walking for longer than they should have.

The Physio Clarity Appointment is 15 minutes, $49, at Manly Health Hub on Tuesdays. No commitment, no treatment β€” just clarity on what's going on and what to do next.

Rest your arthritic knee for a day or two after a flare-up? Absolutely. Good advice.

Rest it for weeks or months? That's where it becomes a trap.

When we stop moving, the muscles that support the knee get weak and stiff. Which can actually put more pressure on the joint β€” not less.

And here's the thing: pain is a warning signal. It doesn't automatically mean there's damage happening.

Short-term rest. Long-term movement. That's the plan.

I run small, regular education sessions on arthritic
knees if you'd like to understand what your knee
actually needs. Details in the link below. πŸ‘‡

Friday's question was about stress, sleep, and knee pain.

If you've noticed a connection β€” you're not imagining it.

Pain is processed by the nervous system, which is affected by
everything. Stress, sleep, mood, even worry about the knee itself.

All of it turns the volume up or down on pain.

That's actually empowering. Because it means there's more you can do about your pain than you might think.

Do you find that your arthritic knee pain is worse when you're stressed or not sleeping well?

πŸ”² Definitely yes
πŸ”² Sometimes
πŸ”² Not that I've noticed
πŸ”² Never thought about it

There's a reason I'm asking β€” answer Monday.

Knee pain doesn't always start in the knee.

How your foot hits the ground, how your ankle moves, whether you pronate β€” all of it can affect how load travels up through the knee joint.

I had a great conversation with the team at Move Podiatry recently about exactly this.

If your knee pain has never been looked at from the ground up, it might be worth a conversation with them.
