This is the final post in my short series on the different ways families can access support for speech therapy.

There are a number of pathways available, including Medicare, private health, and NDIS, and each one works a little differently depending on your child and your situation.

This pathway is often used when there are broader concerns about development and a more detailed understanding is needed. It can include assessment and a limited number of therapy sessions, guided by a paediatrician or psychiatrist.

It’s important to know that this support is time limited and designed to help with assessment and planning, rather than ongoing therapy.

I’ve broken it down simply in this post 👆

If you’re still feeling unsure about where to start or what might be the right option for your child, feel free to reach out. I’m always happy to talk it through 💛

NDIS is something many families hear about, but it can feel unclear how it actually works or whether it applies to their child.

NDIS can be a really helpful option for children who need ongoing or longer term support, but it can also feel like a big and sometimes overwhelming process to navigate.

One thing many families don’t realise is that younger children may be able to access support through early childhood pathways based on their developmental needs, not just a formal diagnosis.

That said, eligibility is still determined by the NDIS, and not all children will meet the criteria.

I’ve broken it down simply in this post 👆

If you’re thinking about NDIS or not sure whether it might be the right pathway for your child, feel free to reach out. I’m always happy to talk it through 💛

This is part of a short series to help families better understand their options.

Continuing on from the last few posts, I wanted to touch on another option many families already have access to, private health.

If you have extras cover that includes speech therapy, you may be able to claim part of your session fee back through your health fund.

This can be a helpful option if you don’t have Medicare or NDIS funding in place, or if you’re looking for a bit more flexibility with sessions.

Like the other pathways, there are a few important things to understand, including what your policy covers, rebate amounts, and any yearly limits.

I’ve kept it simple in this post 👆

If you’re unsure what your cover includes or how this might work for your child, feel free to reach out. I’m always happy to talk it through 💛

Following on from my last post about M10, I wanted to break down another common pathway families are often offered, Chronic Disease Management (CDM) through your GP.

Both M10 and CDM are Medicare options that can help with the cost of speech therapy, but they work a little differently.

Chronic Disease Management (CDM) is available for children who have a condition expected to last 6 months or more and require ongoing support, with eligibility determined by your GP.

It can be a helpful way to access speech therapy, particularly if you don’t have other funding in place, but there are a few important things to understand, including how many sessions are available and how it works alongside other supports.

I’ve kept it simple in this post 👆

If you’re not sure which pathway might be right for your child, feel free to reach out. I’m always happy to talk it through 💛

As both a speech pathologist and a parent, I know how confusing it can feel trying to figure out what support your child can access.

There’s been a lot of talk about the new Medicare changes (M10), and many families are wondering what it actually means.

The short version is that it can help make speech therapy more accessible, but there are still a few important things to understand.

I’ve broken it down simply in this post 👆

If you’re not sure where to start, or whether your child might be eligible, feel free to reach out. I’m always happy to talk it through 💛

This is the first in a short series to help families better understand their options.

We made an Easter bonnet this week for school… and I’ll be honest, it was a mix of glue, mess, and “wait don’t touch that yet” 😅🐣🎨

But in between all of that, there were so many little language moments 🤍

Talking about what we were sticking on
Choosing between colours and decorations 🎀
Figuring out where things should go
“On top”, “next to”, “too big”, “more glue”

Nothing structured. Nothing planned. Just real life 🏡

Instead of asking lots of questions, I found myself just modelling what I could see and do:
“Big yellow flower” 🌼
“Put it on top”
“First glue, then stick”

And that’s where the magic is ✨

These everyday moments are where language actually builds. No pressure, just connection and play 💛

If you’ve got an Easter bonnet to make this week… you’re already doing more than you think 🌼🐰

Save this for when the glue comes out 🐣🖍️
