Imagine being 85, in pain after a fall - and being sent to hospital just for an X-ray. ๐
Ambulances. Emergency departments. Long waits. Stressful environments.
It doesnโt have to be this way.
A recent Australian study published in BMC Nursing looked at how mobile X-ray services can support residents in aged care - by bringing imaging to the facility instead of sending residents to hospital.
Hereโs what the research found:
The benefits of mobile X-rays:
โจ Fewer unnecessary hospital trips
โจ Less stress and disruption for residents
โจ Faster diagnosis and treatment
โจ Reduced pressure on hospitals and paramedics
So whatโs the problem?
The study found that nurses - who know residents best - often face delays and barriers when trying to organise imaging, especially after hours. Despite having strong clinical judgement, theyโre limited by approval processes and system constraints.
At Modia Health, we see firsthand how mobile diagnostic services can make aged care more comfortable, efficient, and person-centred when the right systems are in place.
As Australiaโs aged care population continues to grow, we need care models that prioritise dignity, comfort, and timely access to services - without unnecessary hospital transfers.
