ASF Brisbane

ASF Brisbane ASF Brisbane is an affiliate of ASF-IWA. We aim to create a society based on liberty, mutual aid, federalism and self-management.

The Anarcho-Syndicalist Federation is a libertarian workers movement organised according to anarcho-syndicalist principles. We believe the working class and the employing class have nothing in common. Between these two classes a struggle must go on until the workers of the world organise as a class, take possession of the earth and the machinery of production and abolish the wage system. In the pr

esent we take an active part in the struggle for worker solidarity, shorter hours, immediate wage increases and improved working conditions. And we actively oppose all attacks on workers such as conscription of labour, strike breaking, drives for increased production and longer working hours, wage cuts or unemployment. We want worker/community self-education for complete self-management of production, distribution and social organisation. This will come about by worker/community expropriation of wealth and the creation of alternative economic systems. We are opposed to all economic and social monopoly. We do not seek the conquest of political power, but rather the total abolition of all state functions in the life of society. Hence we reject all parliamentary activity and other collaboration with legislative bodies. We believe in fighting organisations in the workplace and community, independent of, and opposed to all political parties and Trade Union bureaucracies. Our means of struggle include education and direct action. To ensure the full participation of all in both current struggle and the future self-management of society, we oppose centralism in our organisations. We organise on the basis of Libertarian Federalism that is from the bottom up without any hierarchy and with full freedom of initiative by both local and regional groups. All co-ordinating bodies of the Federation consist of recallable delegates with specific tasks determined by local assemblies. We see the world as our country, humanity as our family. We reject all political and national frontiers and aim to unmask the arbitrary violence of all governments. We oppose racism, sexism, militarism, religion, and all ideologies and institutions that stand in the way of equality and the right of people everywhere to control their own lives and their environment. We support the struggle of the aboriginal people for self-determination and land rights. We defend the earth, skies and waters and all flora and fauna from pollution and exploitation by capitalists, militarists and Government.

Solidarity Federation Hospitality Workers Union (SFHWU) picketing and handing out leaflets, outside employer 'Almost Famous'

Almost Famous: Unpaid Labour = Theft
On January 27th, over 110 employees at restaurant chain Almost Famous (Manchester, Leeds and Liverpool) were made redundant, tossed aside with zero consultation or notice. The owners were quick to inform the media but some staff only found out via social media.
Redundancy without notice is illegal. The owners of Almost Famous knew at least a fortnight beforehand about the pending insolvency, but kept staff in the dark, and monthly paid staff effectively worked for nothing in January. Rather than getting outstanding wages and holidays, staff were told to apply via an external company and the Government’s Redundancy Payment Services. The owners didn’t even bother to submit the details needed for staff to begin a claim.
They offered empty words about making the decision with “heavy hearts”, but “support” for their “extraordinary” staff amounted only to a few jobs in their new venture. Over 100 redundancies, yet they thought advertising less than a tenth of that was sufficient!
The question remains, what makes a worker “extraordinary” or worthy in the owners’ eyes? Their lack of care or support is repugnant, and empty words and gestures don’t hide the facts. They launched a new burger restaurant, Super Awesome Deluxe, in Manchester’s Northern Quarter in November, yet expect staff to believe they lack funds. They can fund secret raves with rappers at Super Awesome, so they’re capable of paying Famous staff their due. This supports the idea that Almost Famous sites were culled to pool resources into Super Awesome, a reprehensible action.
Solidarity Federation’s Hospitality Workers’ Union strongly condemns these heartless actions and will do all in our power to support staff treated so contemptuously by Almost Famous, applying pressure to the owners of Super Awesome Deluxe until these employees receive all payments owed. If you’ve been affected by the actions of the crooks behind Almost Famous, or want to get involved, please contact us:

Members of the Anarcho-Syndicalist Federation and other anarchists in Magan-djin (Brisbane, Australia) condemn the actions of the CNT – International Confederation of Labour (CNT/ICL) in its assault on the CNT – International Workers Association (CNT/IWA).

The CNT/ICL's decision to use bourgeois courts against the CNT/IWA and threaten its militants with heavy fines and possible prison time is completely at odds with anarchism and dishonours the historical legacy of the Confederación Nacional del Trabajo. Resorting to statist coercion is a refusal of the anarchist principle that the means of struggle must be in congruence with our goal of a free and just society.

We call on rank and file members of the CNT/ICT to demand an end to this poisonous assault on fellow workers. We appeal to the other unions affiliated with the ICT to follow in the footsteps of IWW WISE-RA, itself an ICT member, and call on the CNT/ICL to resolve its differences with the CNT/IWA outside state institutions. Finally, we call on anarchists and unionists around the world to raise their voices against this injustice.

HANDS OFF CNT/IWA!

NO JUSTICE IN CAPITALIST COURTS!
