We welcome you to join the Official GAPS Australia Support Group for ongoing support. Our goal is to increase community awareness of Dr. Campbell-McBride’s nutrition protocol and provide support to people aiming to restore digestive health through good nutrition. We offer all GAPS Products and Consultation Services at www.gapsaustralia.com.au

Dr. Campbell-McBride graduated with Honours as a Medical Doctor in 1984 from Bashkir Medical University in Russia. After practicing for five years as a Neurologist and three years as a Neurosurgeon she started a family and moved to the UK. It was during this time that Dr. Campbell-McBride developed her theories on the relationship between neurological disorders and nutrition, and completed a second Postgraduate Degree in Human Nutrition at Sheffield University, UK. Dr. Campbell-McBride returned to practice in 2000 and runs the Cambridge Nutrition Clinic. She has specialised in using nutritional approach as a treatment, and has become recognised as one of the world’s leading experts in treating children and adults with learning disabilities and other mental disorders, as well as children and adults with digestive and immune disorders. In 2004 she published a book Gut And Psychology Syndrome. Natural Treatment Of Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Depression And Schizophrenia where she explores the connection between the patient's physical state and brain function. The book gives full details of the GAPS Nutritional Protocol, highly successful in treating patients with learning disabilities and other mental problems. A second edition was published in 2010, and the book has been translated into fourteen languages. In her clinic Dr. Campbell-McBride works with many patients with heart disease, high blood pressure, arrhythmia, stroke and other complications of atherosclerosis. She has become acutely aware of the existing confusion about nutrition and these conditions, which spurred an intensive study into this subject. The result of this study is her book Put Your Heart in Your Mouth! What really is Heart Disease and what can we do to Prevent and even Reverse it. The book was published in December 2007 and a second addition in March 2016. Her new book, Vegetarianism Explained, has come out in 2017. Dr Campbell-McBride has been working with many young people who have chosen a plant-based life style and as a result became very ill. This lead to an intense study into the value of plant foods versus animal foods, which resulted in this book. Dr. Campbell-McBride is a keynote speaker at many professional conferences and seminars worldwide. She is also a Member of The Society of Authors, The British Society for Environmental Medicine, and a Board Member of the Weston A Price Foundation. She is a regular contributing health editor to a number of journals, magazines, newsletters, and radio programs around the world.

Methods for Supplementing Epsom Salts for GAPS.

Bathing in Epsom salts is a safe and effective way to increase sulphate and magnesium levels in the body. Dr Natasha Campbell-Mc Bride suggests using ½ to 1 cup of Epsom salts per bath, however others have reported good results from one to two cups per tub but I feel it depends on how much water you use. A study by Dr RH Waring revealed that most people found maximal benefit by bathing 2 or 3 times/week, using 500-600g Epsom salts each time. Simply dissolve the salts in hot water first and then fill the tub to about waist deep, as warm as possible. Sulfate is thought to circulate the body for up to 9 hours. Simply pat dry after your bath so that your skin continues to absorb any residue left on the skin. When following the GAPS detoxification protocol, it is best to have at least two Epsom salt baths per day. one in the morning and one at night.

The GAPS Diet advocates you make your own nut butters especially if you are just starting out with GAPS. This way you know exactly what is in it and whether any reactions are specific to the nuts or other hidden ingredients or chemicals. Store bought nut butter is acceptable so long as it does not contain any additives or use of chemicals and is organic. Other concerns with store bought nut butters is that the nuts used to make them are generally nuts that have not been prepared with soaking to activate them and this may cause digestive problems. If you make your own nut butters we suggest you refer to our nut or seed soaking chart in the recipe section to learn how to prepare your nuts and seeds before making your nut butters. This will make the nuts more digestible and bio-available.

We often don’t appreciate how valuable our health is in the absence of illness or disease. It’s not until our health becomes vulnerable and intrudes on our ability to function as we once did that we truly appreciate good health.

The GAPS Diet has multiple uses for food grade non toxic cotton cheesecloth. Not only have we selected the perfect weave for dripping your yoghurt to make whey and cream cheese, it is the perfect alternative to a nut bag to make your own homemade nut milks. Making homemade ghee from unsalted butter is simple with the Wholesome-me cheesecloth, allowing the ghee to strain nicely through the cloth weave whilst separating it from the whey protein. Please view the list of uses at our link for this carefully selected eco friendly cheesecloth. We have also provided you with some recipes.

In our bodies, there is always this balance between pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory proteins, and we found EPA was better than DHA at enhancing that balance and this is why Dr Natasha recommends a higher EPA to DHA.

Remember to also supplement your diet by including fish in your diet. Choose fatty fish like Mackerel or Wild (non-farmed) Alaskan Salmon

Our Nordic Naturals available at GAPS Australia are available in both liquid and capsules.
