St Andrew's War Memorial Hospital

St Andrew's War Memorial Hospital First class treatment. World class results. St Andrew’s provides the best possible care and leadership in all spheres of activity of the hospital.

St Andrew's War Memorial Hospital is one of Australia's leading hospitals providing first class treatments and achieving world class results. We have earned a reputation as a first class hospital particularly for complex clinical procedures with one of the highest patient complexities in Australia. St Andrew’s is a world leader in patient outcomes for many of our specialties. We achieve this by at

tracting the best staff and medical practitioners and carefully auditing and improving on the outcomes of our treatments. The hospital is ranked as one of Australia's top-performing hospitals by the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards (ACHS). In 2010 St Andrew's completed a major $76 million redevelopment launching the hospital into a new and exciting era. As a result the hospital now comprises state-of-the-art buildings, facilities and equipment including new theatres, intensive care ward, rehabilitation facilities and wards. A few facts about the hospital in 2010-2011:
• 23,385 patients admitted - 9,741 day patients and 13,644 in-patients
• 18,309 procedures performed - 12,708 theatre procedures, 2,480 endoscopic procedures and 3,121 catheter laboratory procedures
• 11,415 patients seen in the Emergency Centre and 3,021 admissions
• 1,338,022 minutes operating
• 705 tonnes of laundry
• 233,669 meals served
• 1.3 million staff hours worked. Through the work of our staff and doctors and in collaboration with St Andrew’s Medical Institute we have, and will continue to evaluate, benchmark and improve what we do to enhance the quality of our patient’s lives. St Andrew’s demonstrates results that are statistically among the best in the world and consistently measure and exceed US, European and Australian benchmarks for patient outcomes. It is in this way we fulfill our own motivation to work in healthcare and our role as a Uniting Church organisation.

Thank you to all who joined us for the 2026 ANZAC Day service at St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital.

It was a moving and dignified tribute to those who have served and sacrificed. We are grateful to the Emmanuel College Highlanders at the University of Queensland and Moreton Bay College Choir for their powerful performances, and to RAAF Wing Commander Garry Dawes for his poignant commemorative address.

Special thanks to UnitingCare CEO Ben Edwards for delivering The Ode, and to Vani Javiya for her moving performances of The Last Post and The Rouse.

We also acknowledge the TS Brisbane Navy Cadets for their respectful participation as the Catafalque Party.

Thank you to Rev Kaye Ronalds, representing the Uniting Church Queensland Synod, St Andrew’s staff, chaplains, volunteers and alumni who shared readings, poems, prayers and reflections throughout the ceremony.

They shall grow not old,
as we that are left grow old;

Age shall not weary them,
nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun
and in the morning

We will remember them.
Lest we forget.

As a war memorial hospital, ANZAC Day holds deep meaning for us.

It reminds us that service is not only something we honour in history, but something we strive to live every day – through care, compassion, resilience and a commitment to others.

In the lead up to ANZAC Day this Saturday, 25 April, St Andrew’s Director of General Surgery, Medical Advisory Committee Chair and Army Reserve Surgeon, Dr Keith Towsey, has shared a reflection on how we continue to honour the spirit of service in a modern healthcare setting.

Drawing on his dual service to medicine and defence, Dr Towsey reflects on how the legacy of service lives on through every day acts of care, kindness and support for one another.

We invite you to take a moment to read Dr Towsey’s reflection this ANZAC Day, https://bit.ly/4u5MNHr

Lest we forget.

This Anzac Round, the Norths Devils will take to the field wearing a jersey that depicts the story of Simpson and his donkey, a symbol of courage, care and sacrifice displayed by all of Australia's and New Zealand's service personnel from the Boer War through to the present day.

The powerful design features the heroic John Simpson Kirkpatrick carrying wounded soldiers to safety. It also features the Rising Sun Cap Badge, poppy and rosemary, and a hand-drawn illustration of the original St Andrew's building at Spring Hill, by club supporter Pistol Hunter.

As a war memorial hospital, we’re proud to be the official gameday partner for Anzac Round.

💡 Did you know?

We host 60 medical students at any one time across our four UnitingCare hospitals – The Wesley Hospital, St Andrew's War Memorial Hospital, Buderim Private Hospital, and St Stephen's Hospital.

Our students, who hail from universities all around the world (including Australia), are preparing for a career in medical practice, and become junior members of a patient's extended health team.

They are learning assessment and management of patients, and experiencing first-hand the daily routine and practice of medicine.

For decades, the St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital Auxiliary has played a vital role in supporting patients, staff and services across our hospital. These dedicated individuals quietly make a big difference every day. 💙

Through initiatives like the Auxiliary's hospital shop, ward trolley and much‑loved fundraising stalls – including Mother’s Day, bake sales and the Christmas Market – the Auxiliary raises funds that directly support our hospital community.

Earlier this year, members met and presented a $30,000 donation to St Andrew’s, which will be put towards refurbishing our Emergency Centre waiting room. Thank you to our Auxiliary members for everything you do – your efforts continue to enhance the experience of care for so many. 🙏
