This week is Schizophrenia Awareness Week (18 to 24 May).

Led by the Mental Illness Fellowship of Australia, this week is an opportunity to look beyond the label and better understand the experiences of people living with schizophrenia.

At Open Minds, we believe everyone deserves to be seen as a person first. This week, we are proud to support MIFA's call for more informed and compassionate conversations.

Need support to find and maintain stable housing?

For people experiencing mental health challenges, securing and keeping suitable housing can be one of the hardest parts of everyday life. Open Minds Housing and Accommodation Support Initiative (HASI) is here to help.

HASI is a NSW statewide program that brings together support workers, clinicians, and the people who matter most to you, to build a personalised plan focused on your goals and your recovery.

Through this coordinated support, people develop everyday skills, build confidence, and move toward a more stable and independent future.

To get started, speak with your GP or psychiatrist and ask for a referral to the Open Minds HASI team.

Today is International Nurses Day.

We recognise and thank the nurses across All About Living who support people every day with professionalism, compassion and care.

Working across aged care and community services, their role goes beyond clinical support, helping people to maintain independence, wellbeing and quality of life at home and in the community.

Thank you for the dedication and care you bring to the people we support.

This Labour Day is a chance to pause and reflect on the role of work, purpose and rest in our lives.

Meaningful activity, whether paid work, study, volunteering or daily routines, can provide structure, confidence and a sense of belonging. Just as important is rest: the space to reset, recover and take care of ourselves.

At Open Minds, we see how finding balance between purpose and rest can support people on their recovery journey, helping build independence, routine and hope for the future.

Today, we acknowledge all forms of work, and the importance of creating spaces where people are supported to move forward at their own pace.

Today, on ANZAC Day, we pause to remember.

Open Minds has its roots in this history. Founded in 1912 as the Queensland Wattle Day League, our organisation began supporting returned soldiers after the First World War, helping to fund artificial limbs and care for those coming home.

More than 110 years later, our mission is the same: to be here for people in our community who need support.

We hold space today for all those who have served, and for the families and communities who carry that with them.

Lest we forget.
