I’m Ginny Laver, a Clinical Hypnotherapist and NLP Practitioner specializing in gentle, natural approaches to bedwetting. I’ve trained with some of the world’s leading experts in Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), including Dr. Richard Bandler, Paul McKenna, and Michael Breen. I also studied Therapeutic Hypnosis & Psychotherapy at Regent’s College in London, a world-renowned center for hypnotherapy. Before becoming a hypnotherapist, I worked as an academic researcher at London University, evaluating mentor programs for children across England and Wales. My background in research, combined with my experience as a mother and former nanny, has given me a deep understanding of how to connect with kids and support their development.

Poop accidents can happen anywhere- even in public. For a child, that moment is already full of fear and embarrassment.

Often, these accidents aren’t behavioral at all. They’re caused by encopresis, a medical condition linked to chronic constipation. Many families haven’t heard of it but it’s surprisingly common.

How we respond in those hard moments matters. Support helps kids feel safe and understood. Punishment can make them feel alone.

There are gentle, practical ways to help children move forward starting with understanding what’s really going on responding with calm, consistent support.

Some parts of parenting feel like déjà vu.

You thought the tricky phase was over…
…and then it’s back, out of nowhere.

Sleep battles. Tantrums. Wet sheets.
Regressions have a way of making even the calmest parent Google “Is this normal??” at 2am.

But they don’t mean failure.

They just mean your child is still learning.
Their body is still growing.
And progress? It’s almost never a straight line.

But you’re still showing up.
And you’re still moving forward. 💙

This is called bedwetting regression (also known as secondary nocturnal enuresis). It happens when a child who has already been dry at night starts wetting the bed again usually after at least six months, and sometimes even years, of staying dry.

It’s more common than many parents realize, and there’s often a trigger behind it, like stress, poor sleep, constipation, medical issues, or even small changes in routine.

While it can feel frustrating, it doesn’t mean your child has gone backwards for good.

With patience, gentle support, and the right strategies, children can return to dry nights again.

Bedwetting and mental health can be connected.

As we mark World Mental Health Day, it's worth remembering that emotional wellbeing plays a big role in how children sleep and whether they stay dry through the night.

Stress, anxiety, big life changes, or even fear of the dark can quietly affect a child’s ability to wake up to a full bladder. It’s not about laziness or bad habits.

If your child is struggling with bedwetting, consider what else might be going on in their emotional world. A little extra calm, safety, and understanding can go a long way.

"Will they just grow out of it?" 🤔
It’s one of the most common questions parents ask about bedwetting and while many kids do stop on their own, others don’t.

One key reason? A hormone called Antidiuretic Hormone (ADH), which tells the kidneys to slow urine production at night. Some children naturally begin producing enough as they grow. But others may take longer or need extra support.

👉 The good news? ADH levels can be supported. Sleep patterns, stress, hydration habits, even medication- all these can influence how the body regulates this hormone. That means there are things you can try instead of just waiting and hoping.

And it’s also important to remember that ADH isn’t the only factor. Deep sleep, constipation, stress, and evening fluids can all play a part too. If you’ve been waiting and nothing’s changing, it might be time to look beyond the “just wait” advice.
