SYDNEY MARATHON 2025
Well a week ago I wasn’t doing this race but some people convinced me to at least start it and enjoy the run over the Harbour Bridge…
Somehow I made it to the amazing finish at the Opera House!
Not the ideal lead in, I thought I tore my calf in February but turned out to be neural so I got on top of that pretty quick, then in March my knee got sore after an incident rescuing a couple of escaped dogs, my longest run was 22k at the beginning of June but my knee was progressively getting more sore until I couldn’t run more than 15k without pain. I had a scan and 2 cortisone injections in July, then got flu and was wiped out for a couple of weeks, tried to do a couple of long runs but couldn’t get past 10k so spent the last 3 weeks just running short and getting on my indoor cycle every day and working on my strength and getting my VMO to work!
Honestly, I thought I might get to around 15k and have to pull out but at least I tried….but my knee held up! I think all the strength I did really helped and it was actually my other leg that got sore and really slowed me down in the second half! But I could push through that because I knew it was just muscular!
Pretty slow but so proud that I did it, relieved it’s over and I can stop thinking about it and whether or not to do it, and happy my knee is maybe not as bad as the scan shows and that if I keep doing the right things, I can continue to run…but I am retiring again from marathons…
Thanks Sydney, you were magical!
