NOURISH Mind + Body Nutrition

NOURISH Mind + Body Nutrition Qualified Nutritionist + Eating Psychology Coach helping you to embrace food freedom and body wisdom. The healing journey is exactly that – a journey.

Health is about so much more than what you do and don’t eat – and this is something that I became passionate about over 10 years ago. I am a qualified nutritional medicine practitioner with a background in criminal psychology and behavioural science, so while I have always been involved in the health and community industries, I recently discovered the interplay between psychology, nutrition, mental health and overall wellbeing. I am currently completing my Eating Psychology Coach certification through the Institute for the Psychology of Eating, and am also a certified Australian Bush Flower Essences practitioner. So much of what we see and hear is focused upon what we should and should not be doing, which serves only to further confuse, overwhelm and exacerbate feelings of low self-esteem, inadequacy, and disillusionment. I am deeply passionate about the relationship between physical and emotional health, and the role which natural medicine can play in maintaining overall health and wellbeing. I utilise a mind-body nutrition and eating psychology approach to nourishing the mind, body and spirit. In this way, we will work together to develop strategies, goals and therapeutic plans which reflect you on every level – physical, emotional, spiritual, and psychological. I believe in the important role which energy healing can play in our lives and our journey to health, while integrating this with the latest evidence-based, scientific approaches to wellbeing. We are all unique, and our journeys are equally as different, therefore I utilise a flexible treatment method where each client’s individual needs are the focus. This gentle, inspiring approach to overall health and wellbeing empowers you to live to your fullest potential by utilising techniques in nutritional and lifestyle guidance, emotional support, flower essences, iridology, nutritional supplementation and functional medicine testing. I am excited and honoured to embark on that journey with you, because together, everything is possible.

This is all so much more important than our weight and the way we look. Looking forward to the day that these are priorities for more and more of us 💝

Why do we start a new year, with promises to improve?
Who began this tradition of never-ending pressure?
I say, the end of a year, should be filled with congratulation, for all we survived.
And I say a new year should start with promises to be kinder to ourselves, to understand better just how much we bear, as humans on this exhausting treadmill of life.

And if we are to promise more, let’s pledge to rest, before our bodies force us.
Let’s pledge to stop, and drink in life as it happens.
Let’s pledge to strip away a layer of perfection to reveal the flawed and wondrous humanity we truly are inside.

Why start another year, gifted to us on this earth, with demands on our already over-strained humanity.
When we could be learning to accept, that we were always supposed to be imperfect.
And that is where the beauty lives, actually.
And if we can only find that beauty, we would also find peace.

I wish you peace in 2024.
Everything else is all just a part of it.
Let it be so.

Your friendly reminder that being human can be messy, imperfect, and painful and that even (and especially!) in these difficult times, you are worthy of treating yourself with gentleness, kindness, compassion, and empathy.

Share this post to let others know that eating disorder recovery can be full of highs and lows, but it IS possible, and that self-compassion through both the ups AND the downs goes a long way 💚

Do you remember a time when it was just cereal and milk for breakfast, a sandwich for lunch and meat and 3 veg (or pasta) for dinner, with fruit, yoghurt and toast for snacks? This was pretty much how my family ate growing up in the 70s, 80s and 90s and we were healthy, energetic kids.

The good news is that you can eat these basic foods and eat as well as you need to. Eating well does not need to involve special ingredients, expensive “superfoods” or cutting out staples like bread and pasta.

The following relatively simple concepts are one brilliant way to avoid getting confused about what or how to eat, and you can apply them to just about any style of eating.

1. Eat food because you’re hungry
2. Eat enough of what your body needs for both nourishment and pleasure
3. Eat food that you enjoy the taste of

(We acknowledge that it is a privilege to be able to eat this way and not everyone has access to, or can afford to eat this way)

You don’t need to make food choices based on calories, carbs or the latest food trend – and you don’t need to completely avoid sugar, eat “clean” or go “Keto”. That said, if you really enjoy any of these eating trends and you feel they serve you well both mentally and physically, then of course that’s fine too.

So let’s unpack this…

How on earth did eating well get so complicated

“They keep saying that beautiful is something a girl needs to be. But honestly? Forget that. Don’t be beautiful. Be angry, be intelligent, be witty, be klutzy, be interesting, be funny, be adventurous, be crazy, be talented - there are an eternity of other things to be other than beautiful. And what is beautiful anyway but a set of letters strung together to make a word? Be your own definition of amazing, always. That is so much more important than anything beautiful, ever.”

Eating is not as simple as one meal, and nutrients in/nutrients out. When did we start believing our bodies are so basic?? We are COMPLEX. Food and eating and metabolism is VERY COMPLEX. Let’s start eating and thinking this way by recognising it’s what we eat over a day, a week, a month that counts. It’s the way things interact in OUR BODIES (no one else’s). And it’s the way foods make us FEEL - physically and emotionally. Stop and listen to what your body tells you - YOU have all the answers you will ever need right there 💝

It’s not uncommon for people to see hot cross buns as unhealthy or “not the healthiest choice”.

Let’s challenge this idea. Hot cross buns are made from flour and often contain dried fruit and spices such as cinnamon. These ingredients provide the vital nutrients including carbohydrate, sugars and various phytochemicals. if you add butter (yummy!), then you also have a good source of vitamin A and fat which is important for many reasons, including absorbing some nutrients from the bun.

You could argue that a sprouted sourdough grainy bread has more nutrition - and it does per 100g, inducing more fibre - but we don’t eat hot cross buns every day of the year and we don’t only get our nutrition from one food or one meal.

For example, if you enjoyed hot cross buns for breakfast, a cheese and salad sandwich for lunch and some mix of meat/fish, veggies and rice/potato/pasta for dinner, maybe throw in some fruit/nuts as a snack (and a muesli bar), then you’re got excellent nutrition across the day.
