💡 NDIS Myth: "I have to use the provider my Support Coordinator recommends."
FACT: Under the NDIS, you have the right to choose your own providers. It's called Choice and Control — and it's one of the most important principles of the NDIS.

You can:

✅ Research and contact providers directly.
✅ Trial a provider before committing.
✅ Switch providers if things aren't working.
✅ Ask for a provider that specialises in your specific needs.

Meet Hess! 👋

Hess is a Brisbane local who grew up here and is currently studying Commerce, majoring in Finance, at the University of Queensland. He is set to graduate this year and is excited to build meaningful connections through support work. 📚👨‍🎓✨

He is compassionate, reliable, and easy to get along with. Hess genuinely enjoys helping others, making people feel comfortable, and being a helping hand when needed. He is patient, respectful, and always tries to put others first. 🫶💖🙏

Hess loves staying active, especially through basketball, whether that’s playing socially, getting cardio in on the courts, or competing in league games. He also enjoys touch rugby, volleyball, rock climbing, hiking, gym, and outdoor activities. Fitness is a big part of his life and helps him grow stronger both physically and mentally. 🏉🏋️‍♂️⛰️

Outside of sport, Hess enjoys exploring new places, spending time with friends, cooking new meals, and trying different recipes. He finds cooking rewarding because it allows him to learn, create something new, and share good food with others. 👨‍🍳🍳🌏

Hess also enjoys watching movies and shows, whether it’s comedy, action, or something light-hearted with friends. He is a fan of anime and has recently started collecting cool items from his trip to Japan. He loves travelling, experiencing different cultures, trying new foods, and seeing how people live around the world. 🎬🍿🎮✈️

He also appreciates working with kids and being a positive role model. During Year 12, he was involved in Form Senior work, where he supported a Year 6 class through activities, quizzes, and general mentoring. This helped him develop patience, leadership, and a genuine enjoyment for guiding younger people. 👦👧🎒

Hess can also speak Mandarin, allowing him to connect with and support people from a wider range of backgrounds. He brings a calm, practical, and open-minded attitude to everything he does, and is always willing to learn, adapt, and help others feel supported and understood. 🗣️🌏👏

Meet Derek! 👋

Derek is a Brisbane local and an engineer who brings a calm, methodical approach to everything he does. He is outgoing and easy to get along with, and genuinely enjoys spending time with and mentoring others. 🙏😄🫴

He is deeply passionate about martial arts, training with discipline and dedication that carries into everything he does. For Derek, martial arts is a mindset and a lifestyle he loves sharing with others looking to build confidence and resilience. 🥋🥊🧘‍♂️

Outside of work, Derek keeps his mind sharp with a love of puzzles: Rubik's cubes, Sudoku, and anything that makes him think differently. He's also a passionate Pokémon card collector, a dedicated anime fan, and a close follower of basketball. ♣️🎮🏀

In the kitchen, Derek takes real pride in his cooking; a perfectly seared steak or a loaded burger is his idea of a great night, and he loves sharing good food with good company. 🥩🍔👨‍🍳

Meet Stefan! 👋

Stefan moved to Brisbane in late 2023 to study and spend time with his mom. He is passionate about teaching others about sports and martial arts. 🏅🏃‍♂️

He has been training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu on and off since 2016 and has taught kids and adult beginner classes. He believes that BJJ is for everyone, regardless of age, gender and physical capabilities. 🥋💪👪

He is also knowledgeable with Kettlebells and Yoga, and has helped several teammates recover from injuries and improve their athleticism. 🧘‍♀️🕉🤸‍♂️

When he is not in uni studying Business Information Systems, he likes to read books about history and finance, play Chess (mostly solving puzzles) and cook. Being half Filipino, he loves to cook authentic Filipino food like Adobo, Crispy Pata, Pancit and Silogs. He is also a big fan of Star Wars and Warhammer 40k. 👨‍🍳🍳💫

He is easy to get along with and respects everyone. He has been working in the disability space since 2025 and would like to continue helping others, especially with regaining their mobility and independence. 🥰💖🫶

Meet Owen! 👋

Owen is currently studying at the University of Queensland and working at an Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) centre at a local primary school. 👩‍🏫🎒

He has experience coaching cricket and basketball, as well as volunteering at homeless outreach programs. Being fluent in Mandarin allows him to connect with and support people from a wider range of backgrounds, and he enjoys helping others feel supported and understood. 🏏🏀

Known for being approachable, calm, and enthusiastic, Owen brings a positive, open-minded attitude to everything he does. He is always open to trying new experiences and learning to adapt to new environments. 🚶‍♂️⛰️

Through his role modelling at OSHC, he has developed a strong belief in supporting others and in helping people build their confidence. 💪🏋‍♂️

Outside of work and study, Owen enjoys staying active at the gym, going for morning runs, and playing basketball. In his spare time, you’ll also find him fishing, playing golf, cooking (especially spicy food 🌶️) or watching NRL games with friends.
