A quick search of Pub Med yields thousands of scientific studies highlighting the benefits of various magnesium compounds in human biochemistry. Magnesium’s helps our bodies maintain balance, avoid illness, perform well under stress, and maintain a general state of good health.

Magnesium works within our cells — the powerhouses, factories and regulators of the body’s systems. Because it’s a necessary part of hundreds of biochemical reactions occurring constantly inside our cells, Magnesium’s presence or absence, affects the brain, the muscles, and the heart and blood vessels.

Here’s a few facts about Magnesium:
🔸Magnesium plays an important role in conducting signals between your brain and your body.
🔸It can relieves stress, anxiety, depression, headaches, migranes, sleep problems, muscle cramps and restless legs and muscle soreness (very important after a workout!).
🔸It helps build bones & teeth, enables nerves to function properly, keep the heart rhythm steady and supports a healthy immune system.
🔸It is essential for producing energy from the intake of food and help to create new proteins from amino acids.
🔸It helps create and repair DNA & RNA
🔸Symptoms of magnesium deficiency include muscle cramps or tremors, irregular heart beat, fatigue, confusion, and irritability.
🔸Most people are deficient in magnesium, not only due to our foods not being grown in optimal soils but also due to stress being a part of our modern, everyday lives. Our bodies are requiring more more magnesium in order to keep up with our busy lives.

The most effective way to absorb magnesium is through the skin (transdermally), as opposed to ingesting it. It’s commonly applied in a spray form, however this can cause irritation and itchiness for some people. This is why I’ve developed an organic magnesium cream to buffer any irritation. Not only does it deliver a good dose of magnesium to your body, but it also nourishes and hydrates the skin!

I find it hard to believe some doctors are still advocating low fat diets!

Documents show that in the '60s, the sugar industry funded Harvard researchers who, examining risk factors of heart disease, dismissed concerns about sugar and doubled down on the dangers of fat.

✨GHEE ✨ In India, ghee is a sacred symbol of auspiciousness used medicinally as well as in cooking. Ghee is also used for religious purposes like 'havans' and holds a huge significance in religious rituals.

Long a favorite of yoga practitioners, ghee lubricates the connective tissues and promotes flexibility. In Ayurveda, ghee is also believed to enhance ojas, or "life energy.”

Traditionally, the preparation has been used to promote memory, intelligence, quantity and quality of reproductive fluids and to enhance digestion.

Modern science tells us that ghee also harbors phenolic antioxidants, which bolster the immune system.

Ghee is believed to assist with digestion by allowing food to be broken down more efficiently, by stimulating digestive enzymes. It also contains known vitamin E and beta carotene, which are known antioxidants.

Ghee is also recognised as a superfood for babies as it is rich in many nutrients essential for their development! I will do a post in the coming weeks specifically on this topic :-)

It's always best to make your own ghee or buy a good quality 'home-made' brand. There is a big difference in flavour and nutritional value! GoldSpoon Turmeric Ghee is made in our own kitchen in small batches with the best quality New Zealand grass fed butter we could find. You can grab a jar at our market stalls or at our online shop! Click the 'Shop Now' button for more info.

More to come on this ancient superfood in later posts.

I am in love with High Mountain Oolong Tea and enjoy my little morning tea rituals. One of my favourite brews is Tie Guan Yin. The benefits of Oolong Tea are quite extensive : rich in antioxidants, polyphenols, vitamins A, C and E, as well as minerals. It’s particularly beneficial to sip with meals as it’s great for digestion by stimulating your metabolism. Antioxidants and caffeine in tea help the stomach to work better and break down foods faster.

Achieving a healthy digestive metabolism with a daily cup of tea may reduce acidity in the stomach that leads to indigestion, stomach cramps and painful intestinal issues.

High Mountain Oolong may also help your body to get rid of unwanted wastes and fats at a faster rate which is great for weight loss.
✨Annnnnd of course, GoldSpoon’s ‘Sweet Bites’ compliment the morning tea sessions perfectly ✨😉 P.S GoldSpoon is currently sourcing good quality Oolong Teas to make available on our website
