Poor body image isn’t a body problem. It’s a mind one…|

We’re sold the idea that changing our body will fix how we feel about ourselves.

“I hate my body. I feel so gross. I will loose some weight”. Sounds like the common thought solution right?

But here’s the thing. Body image is a psychological phenomenon, not just a physical one. Changing our body wont change our self-perception or self-worth. Body image is not just about how we look, it’s about how we think we look, how we feel in our bodies, and how we believe others perceive us.

And the evidence is clear. Restriction to try change your body often leads to obsession, emotional distress, loss of control, shame, and then more restriction.
Not a lack of willpower. A predictable psychological and physiological response.

So the very strategy used to feel better in your body is often what keeps you feeling worse.

Understanding the restrict-binge cycle can be a powerful first step to breaking unhealthy patterns in how you are trying to resolves your body image issues.

The things your therapist desperately wants to know if you’re thinking them…|

As relational therapists we really care about, well you guessed it, the relationship we have with you.

We deeply care and frankly we are out here begging for you to tell us if something feels a bit off in our dynamic.

We need to know if something bothered you, something wasn’t quite right, when we have stuffed up, when we have misunderstood you. We really just need to know when we got it wrong, because we know we will.

And that’s because therapy is only as effective as the safe space created with you, and if something is impacting that relational space then things will halt the therapy work.

We also just really don’t want you to ghost us 😬 so tell us first please.

What’s something you wish you told your therapist they got wrong?

TEAM GRAYMIND - our dietitians, that’s right we offer more than just psychology! |

At GrayMind, our nutrition support is never just about food. You won’t just be offered a meal plan and sent on your way.

It’s about creating a whole new relationship with food and your body.

It’s about untangling the stories you’ve carried around eating, weight, and self-worth.

It’s about learning to listen to your body without fear or judgment.

It’s about being supported by a team who understands that true nourishment is physical, emotional, and psychological.

Our in-house dietitians work collaboratively with our therapy team to offer care that is holistic, evidence-based, and integrative. Well aware that to treat your relationship with food you need both.

All of our dietitians are credentialed eating disorder clinicians and have a breadth of experience in the space of disordered eating, eating issues or concerns, picky eating, and body image.

If you’re ready to explore a more integrated approach to food, body, and wellbeing - both Chelsea Powell and Sarah Why are accepting new clients. Kate Lane, our senior dietitian, is currently on maternity leave.

GRAYMIND SPACES - in case you needed a nudge to attend therapy, we just gave you one 😉 |

We get it. Therapy can feel like a big task.
A bit daunting. A bit unknown. A bit of a leap of faith, to trust this person and this thing could actually make a difference.

And maybe it just starts here. With a beautiful, calming, collecting, grounding space. One you feel drawn to, that could be just the right holding and just the right environment to begin this whole new journey.

We can’t promise it won’t be hard, and it won’t require courage at times but we can endeavour to be the safe place through it all.

Reach out to us if you feel pulled to do so, we are ready to welcome you ✨

GRAYMIND SERVICES - announcing ADHD assessment offerings 🙌 |

Georgia Marsh, clinical psychologist & neuropsychologist (yes she is impressively both!), has opened up a full day for ADHD assessments.

Curious as to whether you meet the diagnostic criteria for ADHD? And how you might begin to integrate management strategies if you do? Or even gotten a recent referral or recommendation to go down the assessment pathway and thought a psychiatrist was your only option?

Well if you answered yes, you’re in luck. Our ADHD assessment service offering is now available on Thursdays with Georgia through GrayMind.

You will be supported through a comprehensive and thorough interview and assessment process, as well as a report detailing how you can help manage these differences if you do meet the criteria.

Please note this service is not available through our online portal. Book via call or email to reception, links in bio

ASK A GRAYMIND THERAPIST - couples habits & which to break! |

In our couples therapy work, we often get asked what’s one of the most common habits that you really see impacting couples the most? The one thing that could be a real game-changer for a relationship if people focused on?

It’s the level of daily disconnection.

So many couples are living their week like ships passing in the night. They might be cohabitating but they sure aren’t doing it with connection, tuning in and aware of one another’s emotional needs.

And we get it. Life is hectic! We are all surviving the week, but here are our small and manageable tips to shift your week from a state of disconnect to connected.

Save these for a chat and goal setting with your partner. Or better yet send it to them to get the conversation started!

Each of them brings a genuine interest in psychology, alongside their own academic training in the field, meaning you’re met with both warmth and understanding from the very beginning.

If starting therapy feels overwhelming, this is where it becomes more approachable. Our client support team is here to make the process that little bit easier.

SPEAKING HIGHLIGHT: redefining balance for the working women with |

International women’s day was spent challenging the myth of “doing it all” with GrayMind’s director Meghan Gray at long lunch.

Her key takeaway:
Balance isn’t equal distribution across life domains.
It’s intentional prioritisation.
The ongoing flexible choice of where your energy goes based on your values.

When women stop trying to do everything out of gendered & societal pressure, they can start choosing what actually matters.

Grateful to share this conversation with a community of women who are building, leading, caregiving, and growing. Often all at once.

Thank you Simone for creating spaces where these conversations can happen.

Meghan Gray of GrayMind Psychology

GrayMind Psychology is a boutique psychology practice that works with couples, individuals and adolescents to enrich their lives. We are located in Paddington, an inner city suburb of Brisbane, and use the most modern psychology approaches that can create sustained change for you.

From the wait-room to your time in each of our therapy rooms, we have consciously created a uniquely tailored, enriched and nurturing therapy environment. Our detailed space is created to support your sense of comfort, safety, and containment from the moment you step in.

Many people attend therapy with the goal of being happy, finding their attempts to do so on their own have left them feeling stuck. We all struggle with unhelpful thoughts, difficult emotions or unpleasant memories, and often our attempts to get rid of these internal experiences can leave us feeling worse. Here at GrayMind Psychology, we have expert psychologists who can help you change your relationship with your thoughts and feelings.

Helping you to work through those ‘inner tangles’, we are committed to using only evidenced-based techniques to give you actionable steps to create a fulfilling and meaningful life.
