Today I received this message and photo from a new client that has been struggling with debilitating back pain and sciatica for 3 years. This is the pile of pillows she has bought to try and improve her sleep. 💰🥱
She is always worse in the morning and struggles to have a pain free sleep no matter what she tries. 😩

2 nights on the ABCA pillow and she reported ‘no pain, better sleep, game changer!’ 😁

Sometimes we underestimate the importance of our sit, sleep, stand habits. In this case a firm and correct HEIGHT pillow with side sleeping could allow a neutral spinal position and help relieve pressure, promote healing and aid in her recovery.

Headaches and your Spine – Lifestyle contributors and posture related reasons for headaches
Headaches are one of the most common health complaints, and while they can have many different causes, lifestyle factors and posture often play a big role in how often they show up.
How Lifestyle Plays a Part
Long hours at a desk, looking down at devices, stress, dehydration, and irregular sleep patterns can all place extra strain on your body. Over time, these habits can build tension in the muscles of the neck and shoulders, which may contribute to headaches.
The Posture Connection
When you sit or stand with your head forward and shoulders rounded, the muscles around your spine and neck must work much harder to hold you up. This “forward head posture” increases pressure on the spinal cord, pulling harder on the brain, which can trigger tension-type headaches and even brain fog or dizziness in some people. Small daily habits – like craning forward at a laptop or leaning into your phone. While it may seem harmless, but repeated often enough, they can change how your body carries itself.
Supporting Yourself
The good news is that small adjustments can make a big difference. Setting up your workspace ergonomically, taking regular breaks to move, and stretching the neck and shoulders can help reduce postural stress. Staying hydrated, managing stress, and maintaining a consistent sleep routine are also key factors in keeping headaches at bay.

Increasingly more often our jobs call for us to sit for long periods of time, then we come home exhausted from a long day of work, and we sit for even longer. If you experience pain in your glutes, it can be sign of bad posture. Pain in glutes, low back pain or sciatica, can be the result of extended periods of being in a poor seated posture. The low back structure often alters to compensate for poor sitting posture.

When most people think about posture, they picture sitting up straight or pulling their shoulders back. But posture isn’t just about how you look, it’s about how well your body can hold itself through daily life. And one of the best ways to support good posture is simple: keep moving.
Our bodies aren’t designed to stay still for long periods. Hours spent sitting at a desk, driving, or scrolling on a phone can encourage slouching and rounded shoulders. Over time, this can make it harder for your body to naturally return to a healthy, upright position.
Movement helps break up these habits. Every time you stand, stretch, or walk, you’re giving your muscles and joints a chance to reset. Gentle activity improves flexibility, strengthens postural muscles, and trains your body to hold itself in better alignment.
The best part? It doesn’t take much. Standing up once an hour, walking at lunchtime, or adding a few simple stretches to your day can all support your spine and posture. Consistency matters more than intensity.

The affect poor posture has on your body

Besides the obvious wear and tear on your spine, poor posture can lead to many health problems. A forward head and rounded upper back not only overload your body’s postural muscles, leading to musculoskeletal overload and injuries, it also alters your chest and abdominal cavity. Research has shown that a slumped posture can increase pressure on the heart and hinder cardiovascular function. When slumping down in your chair you may notice you can’t obtain as deep of a breath as you would like. This suggests to us that a poor posture can decrease our lung capacity and negatively affect the respiratory system.

At Brisbane Posture and Performance Chiropractic, our primary focus is addressing all our valued practice members’ postural health. As seen above, poor posture is a serious condition that is more important than just keeping your shoulders back, which can impact many different aspects of your life.

Nerve Pain

The spine has many nerve roots which split from the spinal cord and travel between the vertebrae into various areas of your body. When these nerve roots become pinched or damaged, this can result in nerve pain.

Symptoms of nerve pain:
• Sharp pain in the back, arms, legs or shoulders that may worsen with certain activities, even something as simple as coughing or sneezing
• Weakness or loss of reflexes in the arms or legs
• Numbness of the skin, pins and needles, or other abnormal sensations in the arms and legs
This pain can sometimes feel as sharp and sudden as an electric shock. You may be very sensitive to touch or cold. You may also experience pain as a result of touch that would not normally be painful, such as something lightly brushing your skin. Nerve pain may interfere with important parts of your life such as sleep, work and exercise.
Common reasons for nerve pain:
• Herniated discs
• Bone spurs
• Thickening of spinal ligaments (ossification)

While radiculopathy can’t always be prevented, staying physically fit may reduce your risk of radiculopathy. Using best practices for good posture while sitting, playing sports and exercising are important for preventing injuries.

What is Endonasal Cranial Correction (ECC™)?

Endonasal Cranial Correction (ECC™) chiropractic focuses on assessing the cranial bones of the skull. The skull is not a single bone but is made of several flat bones that piece together, similar to a puzzle. Following the Endonasal Cranial Correction™ technique, a correction to the cranial bones is delivered to aid in improving alignment and pain in the skull, as well as the spine overall.
In the Endonasal Cranial Correction™ technique, we use small balloons which are inserted into the nasal cavity to achieve the correction. While this might sound off-putting, most describe it as awkward or uncomfortable, but not a painful experience.
These ECC™ corrections may help patients with:
• Back pain and other spinal pain
• Other related musculoskeletal pains
• Managing a range of musculoskeletal conditions
• Managing a range of musculoskeletal misalignments often associated with facial, sinus and breathing issues.

If you would like to read more about ECC™, read at Endonasal Cranial Correction – ABC International Institute (meningealrelease.com)
