BEACH 🌊 or BUSH 🌿?

Honestly… I can never decide.

There’s something about fresh water, rainforest air and complete stillness that resets my soul... but the ocean feels like home in a completely different way.

The more I research wellbeing, connection and the human experience, the more I realise how much nature impacts the way we feel, think, heal and reconnect with ourselves.

Maybe that’s why I’m so passionate about creating experiences and communities that bring people back to basics.

In true Shantelle style, I'm curious...

Between the sunset and the silence, my heart is missing the heart of Fiji 🌺

The Kindness.
The connection.
The culture.

I miss the peace, in the air, the land and sea. Truly reminding you that community, kindness and human connection will forever be what we actually need and what truly matters.

My soul is definitely missing the islands tonigh🩷🫶🏼🌺🏝️

Today is International Nurses Day ❤️

As Nurses, we know how hard it can be to safely assess and care for people even WITH resources around us. Imagine supporting an entire community with no blood pressure machine, no pulse oximeter and limited basic supplies.

That is currently the reality for the Nurses in Fiji - 3.5 hrs from Brisbane! During my time there, what impacted me most wasn’t what they didn’t have; it was the incredible resilience, knowledge, compassion, and commitment of the Nurses, who continued to show up for their communities regardless!

What started as a family holiday genuinely changed us for the better. We have made the most incredible friends, extended our family and my soul certainly belongs to the land and sea of Fiji!

The plan is to head back as soon as I can to share the resources and education we are privileged to have access to, including equipment, hygiene supplies, and health education, so that the villages and clinics can benefit in ways that are meaningful to them.

I'm excited to say that in less than 24hrs we have already collected equipment and small supplies. I'd be grateful for your support in any way, whether that’s donating, sharing, contributing supplies, frequent flyer points, or simply helping this reach more people; every share, like and dollar counts!

Universally, Nurses deserve to feel supported while they care for their communities, and all people deserve access to dignified healthcare.

This visit was heart warming, soul filling and so wonderful to connect with the healthcare team at the local health centre!
They asked for nothing yet needed so much! Tomorrow we will be taking back a pulse oximeter and a sphygmo (they have had neither for months!) if you or your clinic has excess / upgraded or fixable medical equipment please let me know, I'll arrange collection of needed!

Difference isn’t something to fear or fix, it’s something to learn from!

How privileged we are to live in a world where we can experience diverse cultures, hear different perspectives, and learn from communities willing to share the knowledge passed down through generations before them.

The world becomes a better place when we lead with kindness.

✨ Be kind.
✨ Be curious.
✨ Be open to learning.

This is the purpose of the Different Like You Podcast , to celebrate the difference in our world.

Travelling as an AuDHDer…

I emailed Brisbane Airport three times over three weeks before this roadshow asking for information about support and sunflower lanyards. Radio silence...crickets, no response!

I arrived at BNE and was surprised that there is no clear signage on any level about where to access assistance. After two laps across four floors, I finally found the information desk 🙌🏼
I requested sunflower lanyards for each of us and was told it can't happen and that there’s a rule: one sunflower lanyard per family, to be placed on the parent’s bag.

Not ideal — but I was grateful we were able to get one.
Finally arrived to the gate, making our way to the special assistance area, as the airline had advised when booking. The ADHD squirrel was real and something caught my eye so I stepped about three metres away for maybe two minutes to look at a vending machine in that time, my kids were told to move, leave the area,
That "this the seating was for special assistance only"

No questions.
No checking.
Just a firm directive to two children.

When I saw them walking towards me, I approached the staff member and called it out, calmly but directly.
I introduced myself and confirmed we had been told to sit there, as we were talking, he clocks the lanyard and just like that, in one blink of an eye his attitude was different.

His tone softened.
An apology followed.
We were invited back.

Because to him, suddenly it made sense and that’s exactly where the problem is. Consideration and support shouldn’t begin when someone proves they need it.
It should begin with curiosity, not all needs are visible, not all support looks the same.

People shouldn’t have to justify themselves to be treated with consideration.
This isn’t about one person.
This is about how easily assumption becomes exclusion, especially in systems that are meant to support!

This is why leading with kindness and curiosity matters, one simple question could have changed that entire interaction.

This is why I am so passionate about delivering the education and support to individuals and businesses wanting to improve how people experience them. Experience-led, clinically informed and evidence-based training that supports teams to move from assumption to understanding and confidently lead with kindness and curiosity.
