As a yoga teacher, I know a student is advanced when



they’re not trying to “achieve” the pose


they move slower, not faster


they take rest without guilt (and don’t look around first)


they listen to their body over cues


they breathe steadily, even when things get uncomfortable


they honour where they are *that* day, not where they were last week


they stop chasing progress and start experiencing the practice

Advanced isn’t about flexibility.

Let’s be honest, Chaturanga Dandasana is one of the most transitioned-through poses in vinyasa, but it’s also the easiest one to completely mess up (and hurt your shoulders doing).

If you're just dropping your chest or letting your belly sag, your joints are taking all the pressure. Time to fix that form.

3 Steps to the Perfect Chaturanga:
Protracted Shoulders: Don't let your chest sink. Press the floor away and dome your upper back.

Keep a Straight Line: Engage your core and squeeze your glutes. No banana backs, no hips hiking up.

Shift Forward: Roll all the way up onto your tippy toes like you’re trying to peek over the top edge of your mat. Then lower down with bent elbows hugging your ribs.

Think you’ve mastered Downward Dog?

It’s the most common pose in yoga, but small alignment shifts can make a massive difference in how it feels in your body. Here are 3 things to check next time you’re on the mat:

Finger Foundation: Spread those fingers wide! Focus on pressing into the base of the index finger to protect your wrists.

The "Knee Trick": Struggling with a rounded back? Bend your knees, lift that tailbone to the sky, and then think about lowering the heels.

Lengthen, Don’t Just Stretch: It’s all about creating space in the spine.
