🧾 NEW NDIS Funding periods - STARTS MONDAY – What you need to know (please share - sorry it's so long!)
Starting THIS Monday, 19 May 2025, if you get a new or reassessed NDIS plan, your funding will be released in smaller chunks (funding periods) over time, instead of the full amount upfront.
Here’s what that means:
🗓️ What are funding periods?
Funding periods break the availability of your plan funding into parts – for most supports, funds will be released in chunks every 3 months (quarterly). But they add up as you go – if you don’t use them all up, those unused funds are still available for the whole rest of the plan.
For some supports, like Home & Living supports, the funds will usually only be released monthly. And others like assistive technology and home mods etc, will be released as a whole item.
📅 When do they start?
Funding periods begin from your plan start date, not the first day of the month.
So if your plan starts on 15 June, that when the first period starts.
💰 What happens to leftover funds?
Any unspent funds roll into and are available in your next funding period.
But funds left over at the end of your whole plan do not carry over into a whole new plan.
📲 Who can see my funding periods in PACE?
You will be able to see all of this in your NDIS portal.
If you are Plan Managed, or you have a “My approved Support Coordinator” in the NDIS portal, they will also be able to see all of these breakdowns, but other providers won’t be able to see all that.
📤 How do I claim?
You (or your providers) will only be able to claim supports within the correct funding period. So if your support or service crosses over two funding periods, it needs two claims – one for each period. (This is what the NDIS have told us, but I’m not 100% sure this is correct) UPDATE: I'm now pretty confident this is incorrect info and that invoices can cross over funding periods! Phew! (19/5/25)
❌ What if I go over the available budget (the current funding period including any rolled over funds)?
The whole claim will be rejected. You can’t dip into future funding periods (but you can use those unused rolled over funds that are added into the current funding period)
🔁 Can I move money between periods?
No – you can’t just shift funds between periods. You can ask for a plan variation to change the length of funding periods, but if you need more actual funding, you will need to ask for a plan reassessment.
🔓 Is my plan still flexible?
Core supports stay flexible (depending on how they're managed).
Capacity Building supports are flexible unless stated otherwise in your plan.
🧒 What about kids or Early Childhood?
Same rules apply – funding periods affect all new plans, including Early Childhood.
👀 Already have a plan?
If your plan was approved before 19 May, these changes do not apply to you yet.

So…
✅ New plans = staged funding for everyone
✅ Leftover funds roll into next period (but not between plans)
✅ You can’t claim more than what’s available
✅ Ask for reassessment if needed
✅ You and your PM/SC can see it in PACE – others can’t

✅ What do you need to do?
🗣️ 1. Speak up at your planning meeting
If you need more of your funding upfront (e.g. for equipment prescription, Behaviour Support or Support Coordination where you often need more at the start), tell the planner at your meeting (and back up the request in writing!).
Your planner can allocate more funding in earlier periods if it's clearly needed and evidenced, and they agree (and you can request an S100 review if you don’t agree with their decision).
📋 2. Check your service agreements
Make sure your service agreements match your funding periods. If you are self or plan managed, you might find yourself owing money out of pocket if your service agreement doesn’t line up with these new requirements.
📞 3. Ask for help early if things change
If you hit a crisis or your needs change, contact NDIA or request a plan reassessment – don’t wait until the funding runs out.
🎤 4. Think about coming along to one of our live workshops to ask questions - we won't be able to answer everything, but we will give you as much as we can! https://www.thegrowingspace.com.au/events/

Pic desc: The image shows a screenshot from the NDIS provider portal (we haven’t seen the participant end yet!). The top half show details about the "Home and Living" funding component in a new plan that uses monthly funding periods.
• Support category: Home and Living
• Management type: Plan-managed
• Total amount: $144,000.00
• Funding period: 12 (circled in green), indicating the funding is split across 12 periods.
🔹 The bottom half:
• A pop-up window titled "Home and Living funding period schedule"
• A note at the top says:
“Any unspent funding will roll over to the next funding period.”
• There are 12 funding periods, each for 1 month, with $12,000 allocated per month.

This is why we do not recommend Kidsafe. The modifications they often make are downright dangerous. Yes, disability car seats are expensive. But at least they are tested as they will be used. Modifying seats is not the way to go.

Back due to popular demand. The new extended Konfidence Range of swim products.

This year we have the ever popular swim vests for children, youth and adults; the Baby Warma and Warma Wetsuits for those who cannot maintain their temperature in the water. The Baby Warma is completely wrap around, and the Warma Wetsuits have Velcro shoulders. In addition to this, the inner lining is an easy on layer that means the suits do not stick to the skin the way most do. The Shorty Wetsuit is the normal zippered back, but does have the inner layer to reduce sticking.
Or if a whole wetsuit is a bit daunting, then there are the kids and adults wetsuit tops.
We also have a new swim bag. Originally designed for swim teachers, this bag is also perfect for special needs, with a waterproof base, and a ton of space for all that stuff special needs parents have to lug around everywhere!
Then there is the ear protectors for those with grommets, and the floatation swimsuits.

I will be placing an order this week coming if there is anything you want, please send me a PM including PWDs name, your postal address and your email address, and I will send out an invoice. Postage varies depending on what you order. $10-$20. Multiple orders, especially for flotation devices may be more (for example 2 swim vests costs $40 as they have to be shipped separately to fit within AU post standard sizes). We did try and reduce this last round by going to a courier, they charged $50 EACH! So we will be sticking with AU post!

Introducing a couple of our new products. The Shower Buddy mobile travel commode/shower chair at only $500, great for holidays as it folds up into its own travel bag, and can be purchased with Low Risk AT funds. And the Broda glider chairs in paediatric and adult sizes. We actually just bought one of these for Samara, much to the relief of the Aldi Rocking/Massage chair that was falling apart from her rocking it so hard! The Broda chairs come with a locking pin at the back to stop the rocking motion, and you can get optional trays for them. You can also get harnesses and width reduction sets. The armrests are adjustable in height, and there are wheels on the back to allow the chair to be moved when empty. The rocking motion also switches off when the person stands up, making for safer transfers. The Paediatric Glider comes in 2 sizes and is $2495, and the Adult Glider comes in 2 sizes as well as two backrest heights and is $2595.

Samara got to to trial these pontoons for her beach wheelchair today. She had so much fun. And great to support a local business as well.
Good job David. We will be doing a lot more beach trips now!

Last night at 10:43pm New Zealand time, my dad, Trevor Hurst, passed from this earth. Thankfully I was able to get here in time to say goodbye, but right now my heart is breaking.
Michael and Samara couldn’t get flights until tomorrow, and will arrive in New Zealand in the early hours of Friday morning.
We will be back to work on Monday 17th of October, so will not be placing the Kes Vir orders until then.
For appointments, we will be available from the 17th.
Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience.

ETA: I am having to fly home to New Zealand tomorrow due to a family emergency. I am not sure whether I will still get this in on the 6th as this will cause delays with our invoicing system etc. At this point I am planning on being back in Australia on October 13. My apologies for the delay.

I have recently opened an account with an international wholesaler that onsells for several brands. I just ordered some Konfidence Swim Vests for people, and was browsing to see what other brands were available.
They have the Kes-Vir incontinence and wrap around swimwear, and was just wanting to gauge interest in whether people would be interested in these.
Our business is mainly bigger products like wheelchairs etc, but when the Konfidence Swim Vests became impossible to get through the Australian importer, I was put onto this other wholesaler.
So doing this mainly as a favour to other parents, and won’t be holding large stocks.
But I was planning to offer these on a preorder basis once a month or so.
There are minimum orders I have to do each time, so just wondering if this was something people would be interested.
The wrap around suits are particularly good for those with high tone. Both of these examples are wrap around style.

LAST CHANCE!! Order being placed lunch time Thursday 15 September!!

We have had trouble getting hold of Konfidence Swim Vests the last year or so. I have just opened an account with the manufacturer in the UK, and will be placing an order with them shortly. I currently have just one of each size in my cart, but will buy more if people want them. Hubby doesn’t want me running them through the business because they require a lot of paperwork and running around. So this is just me doing a favour for anyone who wants one. To buy direct from the UK is £55 plus £50 shipping for adult, and the youth ones are currently sold out. (This is $176.89 at todays rate).
Sizes are 8-10, 10-12, 12-14 in kids sizes. Blue or Pink. Price $120 plus shipping of $20 or free pickup in Rochedale 4123
Adult sizes are 34”-38”, 38”-42”, 42”-46”, 46”-50”. Blue. Price $140 plus shipping of $20 or free pickup.
