Eight years ago, social worker Helen Wilson invited Rachel to join her and a family to help Kyran’s sisters understand what was happening for their brother, Kyran.

The Special Dinosaur social story was created using language that reflected Kyran’s family life. It helped his parents find their way to support his sisters understanding.

Helen has since passed, but her legacy lives on through this work. Her daughter Sarah, now an occupational therapist, brought the story to life with beautiful illustrations.

This story is a beautiful example of family-centred care, sibling support, and true multidisciplinary collaboration.

Kyran’s mum, Carissa, hopes The Special Dinosaur brings comfort and understanding to other families navigating complex diagnoses.

Helen had hoped to publish, and Kyran’s mum, Carissa, still hopes to do so — but for now, feel free to share it 💙.

As the year begins, Rachel from Motivate Me OT would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the wonderful clients, children, families and therapists she has the privilege of working with. Your trust and collaboration mean so much.

While quiet on social media, Rachel has been busy supporting clients to work towards their goals, as well as providing supervision and guidance to fellow occupational therapists.

Rachel is looking forward to the year ahead and continuing to support children, adults, and families as they pursue meaningful, motivating, and achievable goals.
