What is Kirtan?

Kirtan is a beautiful form of call-and-response chanting set to music. It's a joyful, meditative practice that opens the heart and uplifts the spirit.

No singing experience necessary โ€“ just bring your presence and positive energy!

As our final event in this beloved space, we're coming together to fill the empty studio with love, music, and community spirit.

This free event is our way of saying thank you to all our amazing teachers and students who have made this journey so special.

What to expect:

- A soul-stirring Kirtan session led by experienced facilitators
- A chance to connect with fellow yogis
- An opportunity to share memories and say farewell

Thereโ€™s no easy way to share this news. We are deeply saddened to announce our beloved CBD studio will be closing on July 21st 2024.

Our recent 10th birthday was a joyous occasion, and an incredible marker of how loved and appreciated this space has been over the past decade. But itโ€™s no secret that our industry here in Brisbane, and Australia wide, has been struggling since the shift in work and living behaviour brought about by Covid, and exacerbated by the current recession/cost of living crisis.

Sadly, over the last three years, we have seen a steady decline in student commitment and attendance, while the cost of running a CBD studio has steadily increased, and to our disbelief, it is simply no longer sustainable for us to maintain a presence in the CBD.

We have not come to this decision easily, we have fought hard behind the scenes, looking for every angle and solution, and held on as tight as we could for as long as we could, but at the risk of both locations folding, itโ€™s now time to let go of what can no longer be ours, and allow the energy and magic of that space be channelled towards our Holland Park studio.

We understand that this news will be hard hitting for many, our studio has become a second home, and inner city sanctuary, for our beautiful CBD community. The thought of it no longer existing is almost impossible.

We would love you to see you, and for you to maintain your practice as much as you can between now and the 21st July. All our teachers are staying on, and would love to continue soaking up every opportunity to move, breathe and celebrate what has been, right until that final weekend.

As we aim to hold you as best possible through this transition, we ask to you hold us too, weโ€™ll be right there with you feeling it all โ€“ the high of beautiful memories, the gratitude of all those who have moved and breathed with us, and the low of saying farewell.

The impact each of you have left, will be felt and carried forever.
We ask for your patience during this time, we will have a huge increase in administration, we promise weโ€™ll get back to you, but it may not be swiftly.

Stretch Yoga, and our beautiful teaching team will continue on in Holland Park, and welcome you all there with open arms,

To prop or not to prop? Our answer is a resounding, โ€œProps phalease!โ€

Using props can revolutionize your practice in so many ways. They offer support, facilitate safe alignment, and help you ease into poses by creating more space, making your practice more accessible and more enjoyable. Whether youโ€™re a beginner or a seasoned practitioner, props can take your practice to the next level!

The simple use of a block in Trikonasana (Triangle pose) can be game-changer. Want support and depth? By placing a block on the inside, or outside, of the front foot, you can bring the ground closer to you, giving yourself more space, allowing for greater extension through the side body and length through the back of the legs, by facilitating a more stable foundation. Want a challenge? Hold a block over head as you extend into Trikonasana! Ohhhwee!

Props can be a little intimidating when you donโ€™t know how to use them, but never fear, our Stretch teachers love a good prop and are so happy to help you explore all the ways they can support and enhance your practice.

So grab a block (or five), a bolster, a blanket, a strap, and what ever else youโ€™ve got on offer and prepare for a whole new world of accessibility, support and experience to open up!
