🍜 Back at Mista Boo Sushi (BTW where is MRS BOO?) and once again I’ve made the extremely sensible decision to eat my way into a state of inner peace borderlining FOOD COMA. This time it was the Mini Karaage Udon and Mini Prawn Udon, perfect little bowls that are either elite snacks or the ideal way to try a few dishes without commitment issues.
🍜 Japanese cuisine is all about balance, and this is where it quietly flexes, similar to my stomach. The udon noodles are thick, silky and cooked just right, that perfect chew that only Japan seems to understand. You almost want to thread it in one nostril and retrieve it from the other. The broth is clean, comforting like being in my mother’s womb again and deeply savoury without being heavy.
🍜 The karaage? Crispy, golden, juicy, and unapologetically addictive. The prawns? Lightly battered, delicate like my personality, and exactly how they should be, letting the ingredient do the talking.

In our Greek Orthodox tradition, we cut the Vasilopita on New Year’s Day — a cake blessed with a hidden coin said to bring good luck, health, and prosperity to whoever finds it. Simple. Sacred. Time-honoured.

Now… my nephew has found the coin three times.
Three.

At this point it feels less like divine blessing and more like a very quiet, very calculated operation. No accusations, of course — just raised eyebrows, narrowed eyes, and a mental note to watch his hands next year. 😌

All jokes aside, the coin is meant to symbolise good fortune, and if anyone deserves abundance, joy, and a year filled with wins, it’s him. May his luck continue (organically… preferably).

More importantly, this coin represents good luck for our whole family — gratitude for what we have, who we are, and who we are lucky enough to share the table with. It’s been an interesting year. Some moments good, some challenging — but through it all, we are stronger, closer, and more united as a loving family. And that, truly, is the greatest blessing of all. 🍀✨

I was kindly invited by this restaurant, and let me be clear — they absolutely spoiled me. The biggest, most generous spread I’ve ever been given, and yes… grateful and still thinking about it.
But the standout?

WAGYU STEAK CREAM UDON.
Chargrilled wagyu rump.

Silky, rich cream sauce.
Udon noodles cooked to absolute perfection — thick, chewy Japanese wheat noodles that hold the sauce like they were born for this moment.

And the wagyu…
Rare. Tender. Melted on contact.
The kind of beef that reminds you you’re eating something once magnificent, once animal flesh, now transformed into pure indulgence. Each bite dissolved, unapologetically luxurious, deeply savoury, and honestly… another level.

This dish sits exactly where comfort meets excess, and I regret nothing.
