What is Achilles tendinopath?

Achilles tendinopathy is caused by overusing the lower leg and ankle region . It begins as low level inflammation and micro-tearing which you may not notice ,as the condition progresses the damage and inflammation becomes more pronounced and there is an increase of nerve sensitivity. If dealt with in the early stages ,Achilles tendinopathy can be fairly easy to treat and manage , however as the injury progresses some of the Damage and dysfunction can be much more harder to resolve.

What are the symptoms:

Most people experience a slow onset of pain and dysfunction directly on the back of the heel where the calf muscles attach. The pain and stiffness is most common at its worst in the morning and when it start to exercise and it can disappear completely as you warm up. Some times the area can be inflamed. The pain can range from minor discomfort to very severe pain, even when just walking.

Management Techniques/ remedial massage for Achilles’ tendinopathy.

: low level laser or dry needling can manage pain and swelling.

: time of high impact activity such as running

: ice or heat ( as directed by you therapist)

: stretching and strengthening

Remedial massage

Bracing or taping to unload the muscles and tendon

Other things that may be used if the condition keeps getting worse:

: surgery

: blood/ injection/ prp

How does Getting a remedial treatment helps with the recovery of Achilles tendinopathy:

Tendinopathies often don’t get better on their own. They will generally feel better with rest , however as soon as aggravating activities are resumed they often return.

Remedial treatments is used to address the muscular tissue that are putting pressure on the Achilles, reduce pain and inflammation, and promote healing to restore the muscle and tendon.

Hip Fracture:

Although any region of the hip girdle May fracture, the term hip fracture most commonly applies to a break in the bones associated with the hip joint. The head , the neck , or trochanteric regions of the femur or the bones that form the acetabulum . In today society the rise of hip fractures are on the rise due to a long life span. Decrease in bone mass due to osteoporosis ( which occurs more in females) along with the tendency to fall , predispose elderly people to hip fractures.

Hip fractures often require surgical treatments, the goal of which is to repair and stabilise the fracture . Increase mobility, and decrease pain. Sometimes the repair is accomplished by using surgical pins , screw , nails and plates to secure the head of the femur. In severe hip fractures, the femoral head or the acetabulum of the hip bone may be replaced by prosthesis ( artificial devices).

Replacement of both the femoral head and acetabulum is total hip arthroplasty . The acetabular prosthesis is made of plastic, and the femoral prosthesis is metal. Both are designed to withstand a high degree of stress .
