Reflecting on the past few years, dominated by the global pandemic, there’s a profound lesson we should all be carrying forward - PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE!

The COVID era has shown the critical need for each person to actively safeguard their health, emphasising the significance in averting illness.

Rather than adopting a passive stance and relying solely on medical interventions and cures, we must acknowledge the empowering role we play in our own well-being. Prevention is a comprehensive strategy that encompasses lifestyle choices and maintaining a robust immune system.

The narrative is shifting from the reactive approach of waiting for an ailment to manifest and then seeking a cure, to a more proactive mindset focused on disease prevention. It’s a call to action for everyone to take control of their health, recognising that simple daily habits can be powerful shields against potential health threats.

Exercise, balanced nutrition, adequate sleep and stress management are not just buzzwords but cornerstones of a preventative healthcare routine. Regular check-ups and screenings add another layer of defence, allowing early detection of potential issues before they escalate. Likewise, regular visits with practitioners who maintain a strong focus on preventative care can also bolster your defences.

Prevention is about understanding that our choices today profoundly impact our well-being tomorrow. By fostering a culture of health-consciousness, we not only enhance our own quality of life but also contribute to the collective resilience of our communities.

If you find yourself, or someone you know, in a position where you are not sure how to begin a more preventative focused lifestyle, reach out so I can assist you in any way possible. Together we can lay the ground work that can set you up for success when it comes to living a more proactive healthy lifestyle.

In just over 4hrs my family and I will be on our first of a few flights while we travel for 30+ hours to our destination, Brazil. With our 5 and 3 year olds along for the ride, here’s hoping for smooth travels 🤞😳

As my current patients are already aware, I will be away for 3 weeks, returning at the end of October and back in the clinic on the 1st of November.

During the time I’m away, clinic phone numbers will not be reachable, so if you need to get in contact with me, please send an email to info@jonroseacupuncture.com.au

I look forward to seeing you all again when I return.

In 2 weeks from today I will be heading overseas for 3 weeks, and as a result the clinic will be closed during that time. I attempted to get a locum in to help with anyone requiring treatments during that time, however haven’t been able to find a suitable applicant.

So if you would like to see me before I head off, please make sure to contact me or jump online and make an appointment for before October 10th, otherwise my next availability will be November 1st.

I have however got another acupuncturist working in the Carina area who can assist any of my patients who need help with fertility and women’s health related treatment while I’m away, so please reach out to me and ask for their details if you feel you might need that.

I am also trying to line up another acupuncturist who can assist anyone suffering with other ailments, so that none of my patients are left in limbo while I’m away.

Are you suffering from neck pain and looking for alternative treatments? Look no further! A 2016 review has provided fascinating insights into the effects of acupuncture on neck pain.

The study, which included a comprehensive analysis of 27 published trials with over 9000 participants, explored the effectiveness of acupuncture for various types of neck pain. The results revealed some encouraging findings. 💪

For individuals with mechanical neck pain, acupuncture was found to be significantly beneficial compared to sham acupuncture and inactive treatments. Patients experienced immediate and short-term relief from pain intensity and reported improved disability levels.

Moreover, acupuncture was found to be more effective than inactive treatment in relieving pain at short-term follow-up. This moderate-quality evidence suggests that acupuncture can offer substantial pain relief and enhanced well-being for those suffering from neck pain. 🙌

What’s even better is that acupuncture has shown to be a safe treatment option, with minimal adverse effects reported in the studies. The reported side effects were minor, such as increased pain, bruising, and dizziness. No life-threatening adverse effects were reported, making acupuncture a reliable and cost-effective choice.

It’s worth noting that the study highlighted the need for more high-quality trials to further strengthen the evidence. Nonetheless, this review provides valuable insights into the potential benefits of acupuncture for neck pain. 📚

If you’re seeking alternative approaches for managing neck pain, why not consider giving acupuncture a try? Consult with a qualified acupuncturist to explore this holistic and promising treatment option. Don’t let neck pain hold you back—find relief and improve your quality of life with acupuncture!

Exciting news for asthma sufferers! A systematic review has shown promising results for the effects of acupuncture in managing asthma symptoms. The review analyzed eight randomized controlled trials, involving over 1,000 participants, and found some compelling evidence.

The studies examined the impact of acupoint application, a type of acupuncture, on various outcomes related to asthma. The results showed that acupoint application had a positive effect on pulmonary function, specifically improving forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1) and FEV1/forced vital capacity (FVC) ratios.

In addition to improvements in pulmonary function, acupoint application was found to reduce the levels of interleukin (IL) and immunoglobulin E (IgE), both of which play a role in asthma-related inflammation. These findings suggest that acupuncture can help alleviate the underlying immunological markers associated with asthma.

However, it's important to note that the review also highlighted some limitations. The number of eligible trials was relatively small, and there were variations in study design and control interventions. The quality of the studies evaluated was also not optimal, and adverse events were not consistently reported.

To establish a more definitive conclusion, further high-quality randomized controlled trials with larger sample sizes and longer follow-up periods are needed. This would help confirm the effectiveness of acupoint application in managing asthma and provide more robust evidence.

Nonetheless, this review provides encouraging evidence for the potential benefits of acupuncture in asthma treatment. Acupoint application could be considered as a complementary therapy for individuals with asthma, especially when used alongside conventional treatments. Always consult with your healthcare provider before trying any new treatment options.

Spring is here! Are seasonal allergies putting a damper on your quality of life? If so, you'll be glad to hear about the exciting findings from a recent study conducted in Melbourne!

According to a randomized, subject- and assessor-blinded, sham-controlled trial, acupuncture has shown great promise as a treatment for Seasonal Allergy Rhinitis (SAR). In this study, patients diagnosed with SAR and allergic to rye grass pollen were divided into two groups: one receiving real acupuncture (RA) and the other receiving sham acupuncture (SA).

It is important to note that this is a small study of 175 patients, and the only two groups were Real Acupuncture and Sham Acupuncture, not comparing to a no treatment control group or other treatment group. However, the results shown in the Real Acupuncture group within this study are very promising.

The results were impressive! After 12 sessions of acupuncture treatment over a span of four weeks, participants who received real acupuncture experienced a significant reduction in SAR symptoms compared to those who received sham acupuncture. The severity of sneezing decreased by a mean difference of -0.28, and itchiness of ears and palate improved by a mean difference of -0.40. These findings provide strong evidence for the effectiveness of acupuncture in relieving SAR symptoms.

But that's not all! Acupuncture also had a positive impact on participants' quality of life. Both during and after the treatment phase, individuals who received real acupuncture reported improved quality of life compared to the sham acupuncture group.

One of the most encouraging aspects of this study is the safety and tolerability of acupuncture. The treatment was well received by participants, and no significant adverse events were reported.

If you're seeking a safe and effective option to manage SAR and improve your symptoms, acupuncture could be the answer you've been looking for. This alternative approach offers a holistic solution that goes beyond simply addressing the symptoms, providing relief and enhancing your overall well-being.
