Dr Simon Abson - Spine Surgeon Dr Simon Abson is an Orthopaedic Spinal Surgeon offering both public and private operative services in Newcastle region.

Dr Simon Abson is a locally trained orthopaedic spine surgeon who has recently commenced at the John Hunter and Royal Newcastle Centre. He is also based privately at Lake Macquarie Specialist Medical Centre offering his services at Lingard Private, Lake Macquarie Private and Newcastle Private hospitals. Dr Abson obtained his medical degree from University of Sydney in 2004. Since 2005 Dr Abson has

trained and worked locally within Hunter New England Area Health (HNEAH). He became a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in Orthopaedics and trauma in
2016. Dr Abson has a particular interest in Spinal surgery and Trauma. He completed his fellowship in adult and paediatric spine at Oxford University Trust Hospitals in the United Kingdom. Dr Abson is a general spine surgeon offering treatment for paediatric spinal deformity and trauma as well as adult spinal deformity, trauma, degenerative and tumour processes. In his time in Oxford he developed his surgical skills to include early onset and adolescent scoliosis management in a busy paediatric centre. Dr Abson is committed to teaching through his affiliation
with the Hunter Postgraduate Medical Institute (HPMI) and
public hospital posts and hopes to continue this into the
future for the Hunter Area.

A fantastic achievement today. The Hunter Area Health inaugural dedicated “Scoliosis Clinic”. It’s been 7 years in the pipeline but this team finally pushed hard these last two years to get it over the line. Well done Hayden, Karen and Adam. In the background our orthotics building where soon we will be able to manage our own braces for scoliosis. A big thank you to Felicity at Sydney Randwick Children’s Hospital and her team, with our local orthotist Adam, finally making a unique health area collaboration happen. A big win for our regional scoliosis patients!
